Opening and Sgt @ Arms Report
Has-been President Todd Lyons opened the meeting....  maybe we should consider getting a bigger bell...

Rob C did a fine job on the 4-Way Test

George S did a VERY entertaining, dramatic, surprising, marvellous, wonderful, spectacular, exciting, sensational, amazing, awesome, astounding, and LONG invocation.

We all toasted Canada and Rotarians around the world.

Nancy Y provided our S@A report - I missed the number of members - 20 or so - with potential member Mike H, past member/past President Chris Wood, today's speaker Greg Durocher, AND Honourary Member Harry Edgar.

PPTL asked that if ANYONE sees Jim McPherson in the next 2 days, let him know that Jocelyn's birthday is on Sunday!  Hopefully this info gets to him in time....

Jimmy McP will also soon reach his 10 year anniversary of being in our Club!
50/50 Draw
Johnny Smooth was in fine form - Honourary member Harry Edgar was persuaded by Heidi P to draw her ticket, but her luck ended there - Heidi P gave Brian W a chance at the pot, which he wasted.
Announcements
- we're in the last couple days for ROSES - please go to YourRoses.ca or talk to Todd L - we need a best guess on numbers by Monday!

- Paul TC has put together a table or two for a YukYuk night here at GCC; we have 12 or so members/guests attending - if you would like to come along, contact the GCC and request to be sat at the Paul TC Rotary Table.  It's $75 (billed to our GCC account) for dinner and the show (or $50 for just the show)

- The Rotary District 7080 Conference is on Saturday October 5 in Milton; all day, includes many incredible speakers, Rotary information, and lunch! Todd L and Nancy Y are both signed up, perhaps others - consider signing up!  https://rotary7080.org/page/discon-meeting-home/
Good news
- Heidi P is back safe and sound from a superb trip - extended 5 days in a 'better safe than sorry with Air Canada' move, put her in some precarious flooding

- Paul TC - just one a GCC draw for a $500 golf bag - AND some other lottery that netted him at least $20
Today's Program
Vanessa S introduced today's guest speaker, Greg Durocher, the President and CEO of the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce.

- Greg first spoke about the newest Chamber initiative, which was a $600,000 renovation of the Gateway building, adding 'The Link'
- a number of 'PODS', to be rented out by anyone needing some temporary, and safe, space to work; the original plan was to provide hyper-clean work space, with extensive air purification systems to keep everyone safe
- since COVID, the anticipated demand has waned, so now some of the PODS will be sponsored and manned by organizations that can help small to medium size businesses, such as EDC, IRAP, BDC, and Canadian Western Bank.
- Greg also reviewed the significant impact the Cambridge Chamber, and all Canadian Chambers had on Government policy during the pandemic
- one example is the Gov't suggesting a 10% wage subsidy (to keep people employed rather than going on EI); within 2 days, after feed back from the Chambers, they upped it to 75%
- the Chambers also signed on to a program initiated by the Cambridge Chamber, where MILLIONS of rapid tests were delivered to businesses

The Chamber and their incredible programs in the last 24 years have grown from 680 members and an annual budget of $321,000 (at a time when Todd Lyons was on the Chamber Board) to double the membership, and a budget of $2M per year (at a time when Rena H and Erica T are on the Chamber Board....  a coincidence???)

Milja G thanked Greg for speaking with us today!

PP Todd told perhaps the most incredible joke ever!  Then Heidi P tried to upstage him - this bulletin editor thinks she failed...   we need an applause meter to solve issues like this....

or, I suppose some would say we need a groan meter...

Have a great weekend!
