I had the pleasure of introducing Don Fanstone Don joined Rotary in 1977 Also the same year that George SZ joined. Don became president 80 81l Rotary had many great speakers including Bill Davis , John Crosby, Lloyd Robertson. . If you ever wondered how our roses campaign started a member Al Gmelin brought roses if you had a birthday. Don also told us of a project they had with handicap children fishing at Holiday inn pool. As Prez he was hung out to dry by the press when it was determined that adding Chlorine to the pool to kill the fish was inhumane. Their fund raisers were a car draw and the infamous Carnival. After don joined rotary i dont think he ever said no. He chaired a District Conference for District Govenor Ted Turner, Don took the opportunity to curl with Kitchener Conestoga and won the Can Am and then went to Scotland for Rotary worlds ( Iwill always be jealous of this . . Over the years Ii have traveled to St Catherines , Guelph Cambridge Collingwood, Stratford ,Kingston Madison And Raleigh and never came close to winning the Can am.. always had fun though.) After moving away he took the opportunity to do the annual Economic forecast on the first meeting in January. Don did this for 26 years for our club. For the members that have been around as Don mentioned names that have passed on but were very entertaining, Fred Budd, Sandy Forbes Pat Woods Don had a mesage for every one. This could be your opportunity to be Prez after Keith/ You might never get the chance again. Keith gave the official thanks Mike also thanked Don for the lesson of history. |
