Opening and Sgt at Arms Report
President Chad opened our virtual and off-site meeting.
The 4 way test was read and a toast was made to Canada and Rotary. ( note is made that Paul T Cody was holding a virgin Caesar for the toast)

Sargeant at Arms: There were 28 participants up on the screen. Aside from the usual suspects , we had visitors from Cambridge North and Sunrise. Guests were Dr Mike Lawrie, President Laureen, Paul Witmer, Dave Banks and Ivana Schibono (a Rotarian from one of the Kitchener Clubs). Also five persons stationed at Langs who will be dealt with later.

50-50 Draw

No 50/50 draw due to the virtual aspects of this meeting. But Todd, you can go ahead and flip that two headed beaver coin of yours.
Good News
No official good news but:
Paul Cody said that he had had a shower today and put on aftershave.
Dr Mike Lawrie said he was growing a beard until the Leafs win the Stanley Cup. Mike, that will be one hell of a beard.
Linda B. is renovating her cottage/ retirement project on the west coast of Ontario.

President-to-be Heidi has a fundraising idea given that ribfest and most every other project has been cancelled. This is so new that she has not even mentioned it to the Board. She is thinking about a Goat Rodeo Fundraiser. Some time in the late summer I think. Maybe around the same time as Best Bites to add a little variety and excitement. So how would this work? Goat riding? Goat Racing, Running with the Bulls(goats), Bossey (goat ) Bingo, and goat curry. The sky's the limit.

Jokester
Although Paul was virtually present he did not volunteer a joke.
Again, our President to be has fallen into the breach. Some jokes from Heidi.

Why do cows (goats) wear bells?    Because their horns don't work!

Did you hear about the guy getting hit by the same bicycle(goat) day after day?      It was a vicious cycle (goat)!

Chad asked Roger to talk about a project in Mexico. Resorts have shut down so there is no work and no food for local Mexicans. We have paired with one of the local Mexican Rotary clubs by giving $1500. to provide food for families.

Rena has 5 face mask- making kits from Lens Mills to make face masks for St Lukes Place. Each kit makes 16 face masks. Contact Rena if you want to be a volunteer sewer.

also Rena asks that we participate in an initiative that her friend has organized called #adoptyourneighbourhood . All you need to do is put on gloves, grab a garbage bag and pick up trash on your walks. Take a photo of yourself , trash bag and upload it. Celebrate Earth day on April 22nd.

Program
Now on with the Programme. Sorry Todd, I did have to ice Chuck the Beaver.

Jeff Hunter introduced Joy and Noah Schuster in the foyer of Langs. Joy is concert master for the Cambridge Symphony. Noah is her son and a cellist. You can visit their website.
They played some very lovely music. Great for the Bulletin Editor.  Was it Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen? The second piece was Viva la Vida. Paul Cody held up his poodle and Jonas Bonas put on a face mask with a pointed nose. Was it a Mardi Gras mask? Actually it's called a plague mask. Fits right in given our present circumstances.

Jeff then introduced Bill Davidson who is the Executive Director of Langs. Bill has been extensively recognized for his community service. He thanked Joy and Noah. He said that Langs had developed a pandemic plan prior to Covid.  This is good. Their community service team is delivering hampers to needed families and helping the homeless.
Then Dr Dave Arnott, the Langs Physician said that these were unprecedented times and recognized how patient contact has changed and how much more stress there is on people.
Anna Pelleboer is a Nurse Practitioner at Langs. She spoke of their mobile Covid testing outreach team that can go in to nursing and retirement homes.
Jocelyn thanked our speakers and musicians. Chad thanked Jeff for organizing the Langs presentation.

Dr Mike Lawrie will be speaking to us next week.

Be safe. See you next week.
