Opening and Sgt @ Arms Report
President Rena opened. Katie did the 4 way test.  George Sczepski did a memorable Invocation. He invoked the spirit of inclusivity and diversity. We should work with empathy and hope. Also  aspire to a comittment to service and strive for positive change.
Rena noted that we are on the traditional lands of Haudenosaune and Anishnabe. We toasted Rotary.

Nancy was SAA.  We had 18 members and 5 guests present : Katie's daughter Deanna, Leah Medeiros, Sommer Sousa, Ron Shipley guest of Larry, and last but not least, Dave. Also several Zoomers including Lovey and Jeff.
No Birthdays or Anniversaries noted.
Johnny on the spot ran the 50/50 and both Paul T and Jim McPherson were Loozers.

The Gala night at Tapestry Hall is April 5th.  Entertainment is a 17 piece orchestra accompanied by Dean MartinISH crooners. Today's Program
As is a tradition in our club, today is the day for New Years Predictions in the realm of high finance and real estate.
Sukhi introduced our stalwart speakers , Paul T Cody and Ryan Pollington.  If they get it wrong, tarring and feathering is the usual punishment.

Paul pulled up some real estate figures. Housing prices are down from Covid highs but not as much as I would have thought. There has been a slowing. It is now a buyers market. There is still lots of demand but changes in interest rates will have an effect.

Ryan did the financial bit.  Going into '23 it looked like a recession would happen. Markets were down, gas and food prices were up. But the recession never came.  The stock market had a turbulent year but ended stronger. Interest rates came down.
So for '24 the Canadian Economy is sputtering a bit ( as per usual), the labour market is tight, and the cost is still high. Population growth has modified the real estate correction. But the stock market is poised for a good year  and we expect some economic growth in the second half of this year.
Ryan considers AI stocks for long term investment goals. Young people with little or now income should use the Tax Free Saving Acc't .
Patience and longtern perspective are more important than present market shenanigans.

Vannessa thanked our speakers. 10 children will be subsequently immunized for polio. Life goes on.
See you at the food bank next week.
