Opening and Sgt at Arms Report
Ex Politburo Chief Jim Mcpherson opened the meeting. President Heidi is on her motorbike somewhere.
( prior to that in the pre- meeting social, Rena and Todd and I discussed cottaging. Wagon wheels and paddle boards were discussed. Rena knows where Calabogie is located. And Paul Cody did his impression of Vincent Van Gogh wearing a Covid mask)
Paul Cody also did the 4 way test and we toasted the Queen of the Commonwealth.
SAA Larissa said there were approximately 15 real and 6 virtual (zoomers) members present and Bill D. was our guest.

50-50 Draw

Jonas Bonas was not present and the cards were still doing their Covid isolation.
Good News
Neil Main said he was newly retired but enjoying it already.
Clayton had won something to do with a radio presence. He was happy about it but I did not get the details.

Sort of good news is that Janet and I will be heading for the Yukon at the end of next week. We will do child care and homemaking while our daughter and son in law attend to their busy schedules at Yukon College. We enjoy being there, but will miss the goings on back here. We are driving. Feels a little strange to be getting the snow tires put on this early. Will try and keep up with Rotary through the weekly Zoom meetings and bulletins.

Jokester
Paul McMenemy told a short joke. I did not hear it or see it but was told not to worry about it.

( Zoomers cannot see or hear what's going on in the meeting room. Those wishing to speak need to come to the podium)

Announcements and Upcoming Events
Rena reminded us of the Coping Centre  cleanup date of Sept 13th. Be there around 8 am.
We were encouraged to sell roses. It is all done on line and apparently lots of people for delivery. So sell sell sell. Mike Thomas said go to the Rotary Roses link in club runner ( rotarycambridge.ca) for info and a tally of your individual sales. There is only 3 weeks left.
Jim McPherson reminded us of the club assembly on Sept 3rd.

A short person with brown hair introduced our guest speaker. Could not see the rest of her but I think it was Ivana.
Bill Davidson is Executive Director of Langs and North Dumfries Health Centres. He has been in this position since 1985 and has been instrumental in developing the 'Hub' concept since 2012. This concept has been recognised as being a significant model to follow in other communities. Bill has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce.
Bill feels that he has a long term connection with our Rotary Club, having travelled to S. Korea with Larry Brokenshire  eighteen years ago.
Today he talked about Langs as a community 'hub' and the recent adjustments required by Covid.
Core services in Cambridge and Ayr serve over 17,000 people/yr via staff, volunteers and community partners.
The Langs building in Cambridge cost 13.2 million to build and there has been a recent addition to the premises to integrate more health and social services. The facility in Ayr is part of a recreation complex to enhance the concept of community.
The Youth Wellness Hub has been operational since 2019 for ages 12-29. The YWH includes mental health services and a walkin capacity for disturbed young people. They have cooperative links with Family and Children's Services, Lutherwood etc. Mental Health is still underfunded in our region.
He said the Community Hub model is good for one stop health and social services. It is cost effective and with better outcomes. Team morale is better too.
The new reality of Covid has required some changes such as on the phone or on line counselling. Giving flu shots and serving dinners to the needy needs rethinking etc. It has affected volunteers and fundraising.
Thanks Bill for keeping us in the loop.

Next week John Lomax will be talking about Indigenous Affairs

Hey Matt. I know what you mean now about the new Club Runner. Took me half an hour to find the old membership list and at that point thought the new programme should be taken at warp speed to the outer reaches of the universe and left on some icy planet!
