President Russell opened the meeting a at 1238.  Tracy did the 4 way test and Greg MacKay did the invocation.  There were  19 members present.   No Birthdays

  • Paul had some fun golf outings.
  • Rena had a delivery of Thanksgiving roses to Honda staff, who were delighted to receive them .
  • George had returned from Sooke and enjoyed local line dancing events .
  • Jim is meeting his son who has been backpacking and traveling on a tight budget .

• Key Announcements

  • Two students attended an information session for an exchange program but did not apply; the deadline is extended to October 15 .
  • An Octoberfest event will take place next Wednesday at City Hall with free lunch.
  • A major social media push is underway for Boots & Bands, happening February 6 at the Newfie Club, supporting the YWCA .
  • Planning for the annual Fireside Chat membership event is underway, with a tentative date around February 17–18 .
  • The Sunset Club is hosting a World Polio Day lunch on October 24 at Safran Restaurant ($40) .

We do still need Speaker Seeker as well as a Bulletin Editor- speak to President Russ or any other member on the board.

Paul's Joke:

As some of you know but not everyone knows I've had cancer twice in my life and because of that I decided to write a movie about fish with cancer I'm calling it Finding Chemo.

Todd's joke: 

As most people know, Haley, my younger daughter, has recently moved home and to help her feel more comfortable, had a contractor come in. We're talking about some different stuff to do around the house, and we both agreed that we don't want carpets on our stairs. So I told the contractor that, and he just gave me a blank stare.

George introduced Brayden as our speaker, highlighting:

• His upbringing in Alberta and Cambridge .
• His studies in business and marketing in Ontario and Australia .
• His backpacking travels through Southeast Asia .
• His current work as a mortgage broker and his service in the Royal Canadian Navy reserves .

Brayden’s presentation gave us insight to his life experiences:

• His experiences living, studying, and working in Australia.
• Lessons learned from travel: adaptability, listening, connecting, and continuous movement .
• His diverse career path in sales, hospitality, tech, and dairy before becoming a full-time mortgage broker.
• Achievements including top 10% national sales awards in 2024–2026 .
• His volunteer work, including raising $15,000 for Cambridge Memorial Hospital through a car show .
• His Navy role processing financial services, paperwork, and supporting members at HMCS Star in Hamilton .
