Good news
Dr, Tom was full of news.  He entertained his family at his cottage by cooking and making coffee,    A great accomplishment as family came from as far as  Whitehorse and Australia.    Mary had her appendix removed in North Bay.

Dr. Tom also talked about Ralph Adams introducing him to Rotary when his son recieved a bursary from our club.  His son is now a new member of The Rotary Club of Waterloo.

Dr. Murray thought it was appropriate to thank our speaker at this time.

Rena was happy to see her mom.

Today's Program
Babur Mawladin is the CEO of Reception House. Babour was born in Afghanistan. He was a refugee in several countries before coming to Canada in 2002.  Unable to continue his medical training he turned to work in the not for profit sector.

Reception house is a community based organization that provides services to Government assisted  refugees to help with the integration process in allowing them  to lead healthy and productive lives.in their new community..

WE learned that many refugees are very often highly educated.
I am not sure if this is all inclusive.  There are Government assisted refugees  GAR and refugees that are sponsored by charities or  churches or not for profit agencies,  There are refugees funded by both and the other class of refugees are those claiming refugee status by landing on Canadian soil illegally.
There will be 754 refugees in the KW region this year. Refugees mainly come from Afghanistan, Somalia, Iran  ,Syria, and now Ukraine.

Many refugees are located temporarily in hotels in search of permanent housing.

More information can be found on their website.  http://www.receptionhouse.ca

Murray Pearson thanked the speaker and  Rena gave the official thanks  from the club.  Prez elect Rena gave some trivia and was told to tell a lame joke that Todd  instructed her to tell.

Editors note.
A senior couple  were having breakfast one morning  when the wife said to her husband;" I noticed that the couple next door that the husband kisses his wife good bye when he leaves for work.  How come you don't do that?
The husband replied " two reasons.   I don't work any more. and secondly I don't know her that well !."

Have a great Labour Day weekend!
