Anne Marie Introduced Dr Asa.Ahimbisibwe Dr. Asa is currently working at Cambridge Hospital and teaching at McMaster OBGYN. Dr. Asa grew up in Uganda in poverty. We heard his story coming come with his report card and showing it to his parents. His father instead of jumping for joy left the room to ponder how he was going to support his gifted child. Not realizing that they were poor it was routine to ask neighbours for food, He also learned to sell things even though it was not wanted, He was given to an uncle as he was closer to school. . If there was no food he studied. Along the way one of his life lessons was if you are in a position of power to treat every one with dignity. Dr. Asa Ahimbisibwe has wrote a book " Hopeful" proceeds go to supporting women and children.. I found this on the web. No doubt Cambridge is lucky to have this man in our community, Rena thanked the speaker and Todd gave the official thanks of the club. Prez Todd closed the meeting with Rotary trivia and another lame joke. Editors note : Uganda population `45.74 million In 1993 56.4 % were below the poverty line. that has decreased to 19.7% as of 2013. Poverty is defined as less that a 1.90 USA a day. The United Nations Girls Education Initiative reported more than 700000 girls have never attended school. . In addition around have the females between the age of 15 to 24 are illiterate. and four of 5 girls don't attend high school. ( 2019) Now imagine how much poorer our community would be if women like former president Heather Cooper, Erica, Chris ,Heidi. Linda were never given the opportunity. to go to school.
