Opening and Sgt at Arms Report
President Heidi opened the meeting at 12:36 - ringing her little bell - reading the 4 Way Test, and welcoming our 16 or so members, and Julie Bilodeau, our first/best/only guest and potential Rotarian.
Good News
- Dean - went to Montreal for a Friday-Sunday holiday - it's a great time to go; not many people around, and service on the patios is AWESOME; businesses are really happy to see you
- This is the time that Bell Canada phoned me....   so I walked away for just a couple of minutes; as people I'm sure noticed I was missing, I sincerely hope there wasn't a vote held for terminating my membership....   but if there was, I missed it.......   so, technically, I'm still a member.....   If I HAD been part of that vote, perhaps some would say I should recuse myself....  but then I recalled my friends Justin and Bill said you should never recuse yourself from a vote, no matter the cost - always vote, especially if you can get something out of it....  Anyway, back to good news...
- I just caught the tale end of Dr. Tom discussing his pet mouse that he keeps in the kitchen to clean his floors after meals...
- Mike T - is now in Perry Sound permanently...  and he was very thank full with Rena's help in getting his shipping container sent up to the new place - I was thrilled to hear this as well, as my trailer is really small, so Rena saved me, like, 30 trips to Perry Sound.....
- Chris W - June 12 saw the addition of Henry Walter, 8 lbs 3 ozs; loves to eat so already up to 11 lbs+; Chris and Wally have been LOVING taking care of little Theo up at the cottage - water, beach, boat, fishing...   it's like Theo is retired already!

Jokester
Sooooo........   it's against the Editor's Code to actually publish any jokes here....   but this one was good enough that I still remember it 9 hours later (10 with day light savings!)

There was a guy, on a boat, but he fell out, and then the other guy was like, why did he fall out, and then a 3rd guy was like, he had to fall out, or what, should he have fallen in?  And the second guy was like, what?

Maybe it was funnier when Paul M told it live.....

maybe we actually shouldn't publish the jokes here....

Announcements and Upcoming Events
And for an ALL TIME FIRST!!!  President Heidi announced many milestones for many members....   I think she came up with the idea of reading them really quickly just to upset me....   but I may have got them all:

- Neil Main - had a recent birthday (and as my personal present to Neil, I will donate $20 to our Foundation if Neil attends next week's zoom meeting and says - "hey Todd, you owe our Foundation $20!!")
- Erica T's b-day is coming up on July 28th
- Dr. Murray and Ida will be celebrating 49 years of marriage
- Linda B and Guy will be celebrating 28 years on Saturday
- Dave D. has reached his one year anniversary in our club....
- Mike T. has reached twenty x years in our club (I missed the exact number, but it was 20 something, which is like, really cool)

THEN, through the magic of President Heidi - she held up a candle, and Mike T and Linda B actually blew it out!!!!!  It was quite something to see - I would not have believed it possible, but I was there, it happened.

Program
Linda B introduced our guest speaker Val Saturno - from We Fund Care

Very tragically, Val's son Ryan passed away in 2016 from Cancer, after a 5 year battle.

Val decided to found a Foundation to assist families with children fighting cancer; traditional treatments are covered by OHIP, however, families have huge out of pocket expenses with transportation, housing, meals, parking, etc. and many take a leave from their jobs so have NO income during a very stressful/emotional time.

Most of their funds come from an annual golf tournament; the first one raised $65,000; with the first 4 years, they have raised over $300,000 - just about all of which has been given away.  With COVID, they will be 'hosting' a virtual tournament, in the hopes of at least earning some funds to continue assisting those who need it.

To date, they have helped 87 families - from Cambridge, Kitchener-Waterloo, Guelph, Hamilton, and Toronto.  As word spreads, so do the requests; they have had to lower their monthly maximum gifts in hopes of helping as many families as possible.  They have also sponsored 3 Ronald McDonald suites in Hamilton, and built/furnished a family room in Grand River Hospital.

As of June 1, 2020, they are a Registered Canadian Charity, so it is hopeful this will open up many more avenues for fundraising.

CTV produced a video for them - it can be seen at  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEqFfuXUl5c&feature=youtu.be

Paul M. did a fine job thanking our speaker, and President Heidi added her thanks as well.

Please join the satelite club meeting July 28, hearing about the new partnership between Toast Masters and Rotary.

Please join us next week for Aaron Brokenshire, talking about living with a heart arrhythmia, and his book "How Good Could You Be" - Battle with SVT
