Opening and Sgt @ Arms Report
President Rena opened the meeting and she acknowledged that we are living upon traditional lands.
Pam did the 4 way test.
Anne Marie did the Innvocation.

Nancy was SAA. We had 25 well fed Rotarians and at least 4 guests: Pravin guest of Danny, Mags and Gordon Springle and Helen our guest speaker. Joel Doherty, Helen's tag team partner could not attend due to other committments.
Larry and his new ankle were on zoom.
Anne Marie and Steve are 9 years Rotarians.
Jeff and partner are celebrating a huge Anniversary. 35 years together!

50/50 Draw
The Pot is diminished but still viable.
Johnny on the Spot worked his magic today. Paul M. pulled the lucky number twice but only got a dead bird for his efforts.
Announcements
Vets Golf Tournament is on May 27th. Some spots still available but most sponsorships are sold. This will be year #6.
Neil Ostlund, our buddy from Arkansas will be doing his 'who am I' next Thursday. The meeting is in our regular spot at the Galt Country Club.
There will be no regular meeting on the week of the President's Ball. More info to come on this big date.

Club Opportunities
Fellowship:  Share peace from within.  Thanks Jeff, I like this one. Sometimes it is difficult to fine inner peace in this crazy world of ours.

Good news
Helen our guest speaker said that she is ( or was) Paul Cody's neighbour....or something like that.
Heidi gave an update on Larry B. He is still in respite and will be home next week. I'm sure he is looking forward too it. The excitement of metamucil and nightly suppositories wear off after a while.
Adam announced he has launched his business and is a sponsor of the Vets Golf Tournament.
Todd was the MC at the District Conference and enjoyed himself. Then he jetted off to Halifax and has lunch with his daughter.
Rena also said the District Conference was fabulous. So many people doing good things. She was impressed.  On Mother's Day her daughter had a car accident but she was luckily not injured. One year ago on mother's day they lost a cat. It has turned up on year later only to find there is a replacement cat in the house. Meowww!. Sounds like one of Paul M's jokes.

Today's Program
Paul McMenemy introduced Helen Jowett, our speaker.
They have known each other since they were kids. Their families are from across the pond. Helen recalls that Paul did unspeakable things to her Barbie Doll collection. And he's going to be our President?
Helen has a laudable history of community service and involvement.  She has been a multiplicity of boards ....on the Regional Prosperity Council, Cambridge and Kitchener Chamber's of commerce etc. She and Joel Doherty are supporting the 'Build Now' movement.
She is here to talk about the housing issues.
She said that some of the challenges come from government interference. There are many levels of government, often in conflict with each other.
The Condo market is stalled.
This region is losing working families to other communities  with more accessible and affordable housing.
The influx of foreign studies has made things worse.
The rental system is broken.
There are no easy answers.
Helen was thanked by Paul Cody.
Paul McMenemy said that changing partners may require a new set of golf clubs. Among other things.
Hey Folks, this is the infamous  Two Four Weekend. Bring on the Blackflies and rain! Rena said there are Fireworks in New Dundee and an all weekend Halal Food Fair at the Gaslight District.
Come to hear Neil at the GCC next Thursday.

We need both.
