Opening and Sgt @ Arms Report
President Todd opened the meeting promptly. The " Holy Cow, that bell had an effect"  worked again this week, quieting the entire group.  Lightening truly can strike twice!

Jim Mc. did the 4 way test and Graham did the Invocation.

Sgt at Arms was done by Ann Marie - We had 17 Rotarians in attendance and 3 on Zoom.  We also had 3 guests; Bill Proctor & Adrian Decoo from the Rotary club of Kitchener, along with Sarah Gage (guest of Paul T).

There are a few anniversaries this month; Katie Watson (2 years), Ivana Schibono (3 years) & Keith Peers (4 years)

50/50 Draw
Steve ran the 50/50 this week and we two losers names Paul.  The pot builds.....
Announcements
The Rotary Club of Cambridge has received their Charter!  They will be holding their Charter night at a yet to be determined date & Time, with our very own Todd L. as the MC.

Ivana said that 150 tickets are sold for the 3/31 GALA.  Sales are ending soon, so hurry up and buy if you are going (including me, buying them today, leaving things to the last minute, like usual)

Todd reminded us of
  • Taco and Tequila night on May 4
  • Veterans Golf Tourney on May 29
  • Sunrise Trivia on April 28
  • Rotary Woodstock Fish Fry on April 15 ($55)
Vince let us know that his law firm has finally moved into their new office and will be having an open house on April 20:
  • Not sure if Todd is MC'ing?
  • There was some debate if this was an announcement or good news and Vince was avoiding the $5 good news donation?

Club Job Openings
I think we are still looking for another bulletin editor who has a sense of humour - or think they do and would like to have the ability to be creative - if you are  hearing impaired.  Ditto to that.
Good news

Jim J. got back from Hawaii, where he enjoyed some time on the "Big Island".  He mentioned something about luggage difficulty and something about volcanic activity......Did I mention he was in Hawaii?  I mean how much luggage do you really need in Hawaii, right?  And volcanic activity, yeah OK!  probably wasn't even on the Big Island anyways!  Not a lot of sympathy here.

Murray got back from New Zealand as well.  Also complaining about the poor weather (please refer to the above).  Apparently he has also been trying to pass off some Kiwi $20 bills here in Canada (by mistake his he says)?

Todd mentioned something about working on his house and going to his buddy's cottage to help him with some renovations. Boy Todd, you sure are a hard working man!!  Is that the point you were trying to get across?

Today's Program
Murray introduced our speakers, The afore mentioned gentlemen from the Rotary Club of Kitchener.

Adrian and Bill did an excellent presentation on their 100th anniversary celebrations (that lasted 18 months), along with some very good advice for us in our upcoming 100th anniversary.

The basis of the presentation was breaking down their planning:
  • Why?
  • What/How?
  • When? - Start Early
  • Who?
We paused for Murray, who had his phone ring!!! Another bottle of wine for the Gala!!

They did a few interesting things:
  • Goal of raising $100,000 which is going towards rebuilding the Grandstand in Victoria Park
    • Rather than a traditional fund raiser, they asked 20 people for $5,000 each and eventually raised more than the goal
  • They got the city to recognize their service to the community and are naming some property (behind City Hall) after Rotary (Rotary Square I believe)
  • If we want Rotary executive participation, avoid May and June for any gala's
  • They are also creating a 100th anniversary book, which isn't out yet, but stay tuned
  • They had a committee chairman and a few other committees to organize the celebration and included about 10 members from their club
I will get the presentation uploaded (or emailed).  I just forget how to upload it.....

Todd ended the meeting by telling a "joke" which isn't worth the pencil lead he used to write it.
