Opening and Sgt at Arms Report
Pres Chad opened the meeting.  Chris W read the 4 way test and Paul T gave the invocation

26 members with a guest member, Lumi Mironescue.
50-50 Draw

We started a new 50/50 pot with $40 going to the potential winner, but alas, no one picked the ace of spades this week.  Michael ran the draw and hid the ace, so Bruce F and Dr. Phil had no chance.

Good News
Paul T was happy as he won TSX challenge and pocketed $85.

Chris W was even happier as she is going to be a Grandma...…..again!

Doctor: "I'm sorry but you suffer from a terminal illness and have only 10 to live."

Patient: "What do you mean, 10? 10 what? Months? Weeks?!"

Doctor: "Nine."

Club Job Openings
This section is advertising for members to fill executive positions and committee roles.  If you have a job opening, bring it up at a meeting and the bulletin editors will publish it here.
  1. Bingo Specialists.  We need 10 volunteers to help run Bingo on Elgin St., 3 or 4 times per  year.  Contact Todd.  You'll get training and the job will be easy.  Non-smoking environment. You will also get to wear a vest that is hauntingly similar to those worn by Wal-Mart greeters.
  2. Board Secretary. We will need to have a new Secretary in place by February as Heidi prepares to moves into the role of President in July of next year. Position does not need to start until July but some training prior to that would be helpful. First three applicants will receive a yoga mat and a free puppy. Contact Heidi.

Program
David Calder, City Manager for the City of Cambridge joined us to provide an update on the accomplishments of 2019 and some of the plans for 2020

Larissa introduced David and by the time she finished his Bio, we were almost out of time.  He said he was a believer in life long learning and his Bio proved that.  of all the things Larissa mentioned, I seem to recall that he had spent time with the City of Cambridge at some point before in his career.  I can't include the rest because there is a 20,000 word limit to this section of the bulletin.

The presentation included information on the following topics:
  1. Well Being and Safety
  2. Environment and Sustainability
  3. Growth and Development
  4. Community Building
A few notable initiatives for 2020 include:
  • Funding for Cambridge Neighbourhood Table program
  • Computer aided dispatch for 1st responders
  • Fire equipment investments
  • $200K for traffic calming measures
  • Council has declared that we are in a Climate Crisis and are funding several projects to reduce our carbon footprint
  • Continued marketing to the film industry
  • Fountain street soccer park
  • Opening the new and improved Cambridge Memorial Hospital
  • The city will continue initiatives on diversity, inclusion and indigenous
  • Updating the 3 year strategic plan through 2023

Todd asked David if they were related (that's right, this not a spelling mistake) and the thanked him for coming out and updating our Rotary Club

President Chad adjourned the meeting.
