Good news
President Paul had some good news that I missed and Nancy couldn't afford the fee for good news as she is broke following her trip to Italy.
Today's Program
President Paul introduced our speakers Rose Bettio and Elyse Golian from Kinbridge and the Cambridge Neighbourhood Table.
Members were interested to learn Elyse was once the President of her Interact Club and a member of Rotaract---there is an opportunity for a partnership between Elyse, Kinbridge and our club to resurrect a club for youth in our area.
  1. https://www.kinbridge.ca/ one of the many community centres founded in 1995 by past member Gary Foran is a space for co-creating programs with the community for the community  Kinbridge serves the highest population of low-income families in Cambridge and has programs for all ages including an annual celebration breakfast with Santa. Many they server are new immigrants.
  2. https://www.kinbridge.ca/cambridge-neighbourhood-table/operates out of several locations across the city including Kinbridge, Forward Church and Langs.  The growth has been exponential, beginning with 50-60 participants and reaching as high as 166 for one meal.  Many partner agencies such as CMHA and St. John's Ambulance are present at the dinners to offer additional resources to guests. 1 in 10 households in Waterloo Region is food insecure which 13.7% of households in Cambridge rely on meal assistance.  Cambridge also has the highest feelings of loneliness and lowest sense of community which the CNT attempts to address by reducing social isolations, addressing food insecurity, providing resource access, offering diverse connections, community engagement and empowerment.
The CNT's annual operating cost of running 2 meal locations is approximately $190,000  and the well is running dry with grant money coming to an end. The CNT does receive funds from the Region and some from the City of Cambridge, but nothing from the Provincial Government.  They fear their will be no growth for program despite the need.  Their team is currently planning for the 2025 year.
