Opening and Sgt @ Arms Report
President Paul McMenemy opened the meeting. He acknowledged  our first Nations people, their wisdom and their land that we now reside on. Adam did the Four Way test and Tom Everett did the Invocation.
Nancy, our SAA said we have 13 members present , our speaker Tara Mondou. Perhaps a couple of Zoomers as well.

50/50 Draw
Johnny Smooth must still be wasting away in Aruba.
Brian did the 50/50 . Katie and Mike H. were unlucky. There is about $700 to be won.
Announcements
The Toddler announced that the board, after much deliberation, has decided that us men Rotarians will wear blue golf shirts,  and our lady Rotarians will wear purple golf shirts. Hey folks, size does matter. Toddler wore a medium. I think I would be a large. 20 bucks / shirt unless you are a bingophile. I didn't see a sign up sheet to order but there will be one. We need them to show that we are Rotarians at various functions.
Tracy reminded us of Boots and Bands on March 29th, our fundraiser for the women's shelter . It is much needed and I think either open or just about to. The YWCA is running it.
Tracy will bring flyers next week. She needs auction items etc.
Tickets now available at BootsAndBands.com
Pres Paul said the minutes of Board Meetings will be posted. He wants this information available to all members. Probably exciting reading. And folks, any member can attend a board meeting  and listen in, just not vote etc.
He also reminded us of the Fireside next Thursday, March 26th at Quarry House, River Walk Condos. There will be no noon meeting.  Bring out someone that you think will make a good member. When does it start?  Maybe 6 pm. But there probably will be an email about that.

Todd said our wine stash is still in good shape.( Best Before dates have mysteriously been scratched out.)

Also we need a President Elect after Keith. This lucky person will be President during our 100th Anniversary year.

May 2 = Tacos e Tequila - SAVE THE DATE!!!
Club Opportunities
Larry B is looking for speakers for 2025. Please help him with some ideas.

Also we are looking for some Bulletin Editors - you can add in content and be quite creative BEST of all  you can't get fired !

And a President elect for our 100th Anniversary Year.
Good news
Nancy said that our club has given financial assistance to a disabled person who is a member of Adults in Motion.
Tom Everett said he was in downtown Galt doing some shopping the other day. He had not been there for a while. He went in to Red Basil Restaurant and had some lunch. There were 4 ladies at another table. He did not know them. They left first and when he got up to pay, the waiter said the women had paid his bill. Wow. This had never happened to him before. Food for thought.

After that your Editor organized an impromptu push-up session in support of our members who are doing the Push-up Challenge. We raised a few bucks.  Todd did 20 push-ups but had already done 135 earlier. His arms were sore.

Today's Program
Our speaker, Tara Mondou was introduced.
She is chair of Waterloo Regional Block Parent Program. This volunteer organization has existed since 1977 and she has been a volunteer member since 2009.
She lives in West Galt and has also been involved in organizing content for the Neighbours of West Galt magazine. She has authored 2 children's novels and is director of Guitars for kids.
She received a Bernice Adams award in 2018.
She is passionate about child safety but also intent on getting kids ( and parents) out of their cars and houses. Walking to school is a lost activity. Parents worry about bad people but also do not know how to teach their kids about crossing streets etc.
This is what they do by attending school events and neighbourhood association events. A Block Parent sign in a window means that a child can seek help at that house, but they are no longer allowed in the house.  The child has to stay on the porch with the block parent while calls are made.
It seems that actual events where a child is being followed or harassed are few and far between.
The Block Parent Program needs two things:  It needs more volunteers ( especially since Covid) and it needs financial support.  Tara specifically asked for financial assistance in order to publish more of their booklets. These booklets include activities for children and families to help educate and also attract volunteers. They cost $3 each to print and she would like a1000 copies.
Thank you Tara for your informative talk.

Todd had a baking joke about how to make a Swiss roll. You can figure it out.
Come to the Fireside next Thursday. Bring a guest.
It seems that our neighbours to the south are running out of eggs due to Avian flu.  We are ok so far.  Enjoy your omelette.
