Opening and Sgt @ Arms Report
Well folks, summer is waning and the birds and snowbirds are thinking of heading south. 117days to Christmas.
Paul M. opened the meeting and welcomed us. He acknowledged our use of First Nations land and our respect for their culture.
Katie did the 4 way test. ( we get by with a little help from our friends)
Vanessa did the innvocation and we toasted Rotary.
Toddler jumped in and did the SAA report. 14 of us in person and 2 via StarLink. Our guest speaker Jim Hogarth.

Birthdays:  My better half turned a year older recently and I will catch up in November.
50/50 Draw
Johnny Smooths was merciless. Both Pauls drew and were Loozers.
Announcements
Vanessa said that Randy and her were hatching a new fundraiser for the New Year. A Country theme. Did you mean the wild west? ' Why Hoss, you do look good in those boots.'
Todd did his best to goad us into buying roses by pretending  to send 2000 dozen roses to Paul Cody. $45./ doz. The form is easy any you can use visa or e-transfer. Thanksgiving is Oct 14th. If delivering yourself you can pick up on either of the 3 delivery days.
Miss Tracey said there is Yuk Yuks at the GCC on October 4th. Dinner at 6, show begins at 8pm.
Club Opportunities
Come to a Rotary Meeting. Bring a friend. Have some good food and fellowship.
Good news
Brian and spouse have found a great babysitter for their daughter. She is Peter Emary's daughter and Peter brought her to the meetings in a baby basket 14 years ago.
Tom S. is happy to be back after a busy summer at the cottage.
Today's Program
Paul Hogarth was our guest speaker.
He has spent is career in the building and construction trades, at one time heading a union of 150,000 across Canada.
He is a 3rd generation steam fitter by trade.
He has lobbied for a safer workplace, both for union and non-union employees.
He now heads H2H, Helmets to Hardhats. This organisation facilitates Canadian vets getting in to second careers.
Web based programmes help Vets choose a trade.
9000 vets leave the forces each year. (did I get that right?). 400 vets are in the programme at present.
Not all provinces support this  but Ontario does. Ontario graduates %50 of vets from the programme but they do not necessarily stay here.
Paul H. was thanked by Paul McMenemy.
Larry B. had some good words to say about Paul Hogarth although they usually are on opposite sides of the table.

Toddler ended things with a Star Trek joke and Pres Paul has one about Pirates/ Pie Rates.
Rena, it is Helmet, not Helmut. Ya.
