Executive Director, Sexual Assault Support Centre, Waterloo Region
Sara Casselman is the Executive Director of the Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region, recognized for its survivor-centred services, systemic advocacy, innovative prevention work, and leadership in anti-human trafficking initiatives. With more than two decades of experience addressing sexual violence, human trafficking, and gender-based violence, she is a respected leader and advocate committed to advancing equity and systemic change.
A graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University and Conestoga College, Sara co-chairs Waterloo Region’s Gender-Based Violence Strategy and is an active member of the Ontario Coalition of Rape Crisis Centres, along with numerous local and provincial tables dedicated to strengthening responses to sexual and gender-based violence.
Her leadership has been recognized through several honours, including the King Charles III Coronation Medal (2025), the Kitchener Mayor’s City Builder Award (2018), K-W Oktoberfest Rogers Professional Woman of the Year (2013), Waterloo Region Record 40 Under 40 (2012), and the Leading Women, Building Communities Award (2011).
