Stories
Opening and Sgt at Arms Report
President Linda was back from her sailing vacation, and presided over today's meeting, which was held at Grand Innovations in the Gaslight District in west Galt.
There were 23 members present, 3 visiting Rotarians and 4 guests.   Visiting Rotarians included past members Bob Thiesburger and Gary Hauser, and Rod Hunter, who came with Bob.  Our guests were Karen Stewart, Randy Borne, Tim Ellis, and Jerry with the unspellable last name.
Todd recited the 4 way test from memory and Dr. Tom gave us the invocation.

50-50 Draw

No draw today.
Good News
  • Todd was glad to see that Bob Cheeseburger is still mobile.
  • Dr.Tom was gratified that non-members like Cheeseburger are reading his bulletins.  It makes him feel that the long candle-lit hours he spends honing his craft are worth it.
  • Cheeseburger hates sitting beside Todd.
  • Pres. Linda had a wonderful sailing trip in the British Virgin Islands.
  • Neil had an extensive and excellent tour of France.
  • Paul M's daughter is getting married tomorrow (today, as I write this)
  • PP Jim congratulated Paul on the wedding.
  • Pres. Linda's friend, Wendy Wassink, wrote to thank us for our help buying special shoes.  Wendy is a polio survivor and is thankful to be living longer than anyone forecast.

Program
Bob Thiesburger introduced Tim Ellis, the executive director of Grand Innovations https://grand-innovations.com/
Grand Innovations is a new startup business incubator located in the 150-year-old Tiger Brand building on Grand Avenue, which is part of the downtown Gaslight District development.  Tim brings his experience managing the successful Waterloo Accelerator Centre.
G.I. has shared workspace and private offices.  It will house support services (like legal, accounting, book-keeping) as well as connecting company founders to mentors and funders.
G.I. will support any kind of new business, not just the pure tech businesses that are the focus of other startup hubs.  It is being funded currently by a City of Cambridge grant, and by deferred rent by HIP Developments.  Tim anticipates becoming self sustaining within 18 months.
The large room where we held today's meeting can be rented for events.
Following the presentation, we toured the facility.  The remodeled space is quite beautiful.
If you have the time and inclination (and business skills to share), G.I. would like to talk to you about mentoring a business founder.  Go to their website for more information or to contact Tim or his team.
