In lieu of Rememberance day tomorrow we are meeting at the Kinsmen Club and Dave Sopha the painter is our host.
President Paul opened the meeting and we sang O' Canada.
Jim McPherson recited the 4 Way test and Leslie said the invocation.
Then a toast to Canada and I think we are glad to be Canadians this week.

We then had a moment of silence.

SAA report. 17 Rotarians were present. We had 3 guests.

50/50 Draw.  Randy drew both tickets but unfortunately the ace of spades did not show, so the pot grows

Good News.

Patrick said he did an 11k Rememberance Day run last weekend. He said he has run 23 races this year and has placed first in a lot of them. With his winnings he has bought a new pair of shoes and is going to get an Iron Man tattoo. Patrick, where are you going to put this tattoo??

John Jonas said he got a Rotary Necklace from Bob Bedford.

Paul T. said he had some fond memories of this Kinsmen building. He recalls a candlelight dinner here some years ago.

Announcements: There were none

Health and Good Cheer: There was none

No joke today either.

Programme: Larry Brokenshire introduced Dave  Sopha.

Dave started out as a professional airbrush artist. He started painting at age 22. Then he had a bad car accident and started oil painting.
He now paints portraits of fallen Canadian soldiers. I think his largest effort has been the very large work depicting Canadian soldiers killed in Afganistan.

He has received many awards for his efforts, both local and national. He has toured with his paintings and has been part of fundraising projects.

He spends about 70 Hrs per portrait.

He has met family members of fallen soldiers and he says this can be a very emotional time.

He is now painting Canadian Peacekeepers who have died in countries like Cyrus, Syria, the Congo, Bosnia etc.

He said that at least 500 Canadians were killed in the Korean war but he probably will not have time to paint them.

On Saturday November 12th he will be having an open house here from noon to four pm if you want to bring friends or family to see his work.

He was thanked by John Jonas.

We also thanked Sandra for arranging our tasty box lunches.

Pedro was back at the meeting today and it was good to see him. He is doing a talk next week so please join us.

This is the first time I have done the bulletin on this new template. I hope it doesn't disappear in a puff of smoke when I click the next button!
