Stories
Opening and Sgt at Arms Report
President Linda presided, Jim McPherson recited the 4 way test and Todd Lyons said his favourite Innvocation.
Karen our SAA said there were 26 Rotarians present and two visiting Honorary Rotarians, Bob Bedford and Harry Edgar, Don Fanstone was also present , also an Honorary Rotarian but I guess not a visitor.
Guests were Dhruv and Kbob Parmani, guests of Bob Bedford. Andrea Lee guest of Chad and Kim. And Dave a guest of Neil.

50-50 Draw

Presided over by his Royal Highness Prince John of Jonas.
And one of our Newbies won the Pot. Keith Peers collected $370. Spend it wisely.
Good News
Jim McPherson said that $5000 was raised and matched by Rotary International. With this, photocopiers and business machines will be purchased and sent to Ghana.

Jim Johnston said he was Murray Pearson, who is too busy fixing teeth in Port Perry to come to meetings. Murray won the pot at the Golf Tourney and gave the entire pot plus extra to assuage his guilt.  Thanks Murray. We will think about you.

Don Fanstone said Murray P. also won the economics prediction at the New Years Prognostication. Again, giving up on Murray he gave the $75 to the club.

Paul T. said he finally got the clothes back from the ski chalet were some of our Rotarians obviously had a good time this last winter.  Speak to Paul if you are missing something.

Bob Bedford spoke about his guests. Dhruv and Kbob are eagerly starting a new life here in Cambridge. Dhruv (Drew) is in marketing and Kbob is getting her Physio certification so she can practice.
Bob also said that he beat out Tom Everrett in the Big Fab Rotary Dinner Challenge. Bob raised more money so he brought some tchotcha to ease Tom's pain.  Reluctantly accepted by Tom E.

Mike Thomas said he has been invited to Giorgio' s wedding in Italy and they are going.  Tutti Bellissimo!

Mark Nykamp is back with a tan after spending a great family vacation in Bermuda. His dad had a great time.

Linda B. said the recent Golf fundraiser was a busy challenging time but they raised some money.  A hearty thanks to the volunteers.

Jokester
Paul did an end run by telling his joke at the end of the meeting.
It was a coup (coop)
Paul went to a Halloween party dressed as a chicken. He met a girl dressed as an egg.  They got on very well. Very well indeed.

Announcements and Upcoming Events
Will is ill as we all know. But he married his partner this last weekend. Congratulations, Wilf.
Paul T.  reminded us of the President's Ball on June 14th, Members Free. Guests and partbners cost sixty five bucks.
He also said our new satellite club is meeting on May 28th, which is a Tuesday evening from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. It is an option for Rotarians who have difficulties with Thursday noon meetings.
Chad said we are giving Vocational Awards to St Benedicts and Monsignor Doyle in June.  We need two volunteers to present the awards. Grad nights are June 27th for M. Doyle at Forward Church and I think St Benedicts is at the Kitchener Aud on June 26th. I think we have one volunteer already. Talk to Chad or Tom S. if you can do it.  I will deliver the cheques to the schools so all you have to do is let us know and show up.

So this is some self promotion that you can do as editor.  Some of your fellow Rotarians are challenging themselves in the Fun Run on June 2nd. We would like your support. It goes to a good cause = Kids Ability.
Todd Lyons who is a real superhero is in the run.
Graham Williams and Tom Samolczyk are also participating.as the British Invasion...mode of transport to be determined....we might walk or run the 5km...Uber if we run out of steam.
Support us on line by going to this link and looking us up. Thank you.

Program
Bruce Flowers did his ' Who am I / Welcome back ' talk. He was introduced by Harry Edgar.
Bruce was born in Surrey England. He also lived in Hampshire. His dad was a Canadian from the Gaspe and met Bruce's mom in a Woolworths store when he was over in England during WW2.
Bruce lived in England and joined the army, then airforce when he was old enough. He became a radar technician. He spent some time in the Mediterranean.
Then he became a London ' Bobbie' for five years. He became a court liason and was able to do some minor prosecutions.
He came to Canada in '74 and did traffic accident investigation in Peel Region. Then he moved to the Halton Region Constabulary and got into wire tapping criminals. Some very interesting stories.
He retired in '87 and did paralegal work for 'Points'.
Bob Theisburger got him into our Rotary Club in 1994. He was President in 1999 and got to go to the conference in Singapore. Heather wanted to go and never forgave him. She got to go to Chicago.
He finished with a quote by Winston Churchill.

Just when we thought the Announcements were over:  Linda thanked the Golf Tournament Committee and had them stand for more adulation.. Bob Bedford was thanked for raising big bucks at the Fab  Dinner.

Rena invited us to attend the ' Don't Meth with us' presentation on May 24th at Langs from noon to 2 pm. She sent out a sign up link to all of us on May 13th. Please let her know if you will attend.  Several of our Rotarians will be in teams that go in to schools to talk about drug use. So this will be a new and ongoing effort by our club.

What came first...the chicken or the egg?
