Stories
Opening and Sgt at Arms Report
President Linda led the meeting today.
Neil recited the 4 way test.  Someone was standing between him and the poster so he messed up part of it.  Nobody noticed.
Dr. Tom gave the invocation.
Jim M was SAA.  There were 29 members today, including three honorary members: Bill Barlow, Harry Edgar, and our guest speaker Don Fanstone.  There were also 2 guests...Jim McKinley, guest of Don F, and Jamie Ransley, guest of Larry.

Health and Good Cheer
Everyone was in good health today.
50-50 Draw
Johnny J ran the show again today.  Apparently over $1000 in the pot now and the remaining deck is quite thin.
Sandy and Bill B both lost today.  It's a nail-biter.
Jokester
Jim J and I both tried to fill in for the missing Paul M.  We both embarassed ourselves.  Laugh factor, 2.5 out of 10.
Good News
  • Dean had a pleasurable dental cleaning with Kim.  Plus Dean's wife Olga got treated by Kim during normally-closed hours, saving their vacation!
  • Harry informed us that he was president of this club when Stormy Daniels was 12 years old.  Staying on topic, Harry mentioned that Ms. Daniels was Donald Trump's only hire who was actually qualified for the job.  This joke was funnier than either of the offerings during the official jokester segment.
  • Jim J had a great time in Bermuda.  And he golfed there too.
Announcements and Upcoming Events
  • Make sure to be at the Jan 17 special meeting when Marie-Paule Attema a survivor of the Rwanda genocide, will be speaking to the 3 Cambridge clubs.
  • Chad and Kim's President's Levy is on Jan.20 from 1pm to 4pm, 59 Chrysler Crescent.
  • The replacement Christmas party is on Feb.1.  Let Pres. Linda know if you're attending.  There is no cost to those who bought tickets for the original party, or $60 each for new folks who didn't buy tickets.
  • Jim M is planning a ski weekend in Collingwood.  2 nights from Friday March 1st - Sunday March 3rd at the chalet linked here.  Please RSVP on a 1st come, first served basis with a 1st and 2nd bedroom preference.  The estimated cost per room is $325 all-in for both nights.  Jim will allocate the rooms in the order in which he receives responses and once confirmed you will have 2 days to forward $325 to jimmcphersonjr@gmail.com.  Max capacity is 11 bedrooms (in two adjacent chalets).
  • The annual club bonspiel is on Thursday March 7.  Mark your calendars.  Tom E is chairing the committee and needs committee members to help organize.  Prize donations are also needed.
Program
Today was our annual New Years Prognostications, delivered by Past President and Honorary Member Don Fanstone.  Don was introduced by Harry, who mercifully kept it short.
First order of business:  Cathy Gosse distinguished herself as the top economic forecaster in 2018.  Miraculously, I won the gambler's prize for the closest guess for TSX index at year end.  It wasn't looking good for much of 2018, but I knew the Donald would help me pull it off in the end.  If you want to see your 2018 results, click here.
Summarizing this year's presentation: Don likes pipelines, doesn't like Justin, and finds it hard to argue with the great success south of the border. You had to be there to fully appreciate it.
He wrapped up with some determined arm-twisting, trying to get Roger to take over this annual tradition in 2019.

Thanks again this year Don!  Always a great presentation that clearly takes a lot of preparation!
