Todays meeting was at Anselma house In Kitchener. President Katie asked permission to not sing O' Canada as the residents living there have suffer enough abuse. I was so stunned by this event that I don't remember if we said grace or not.. This weeks Sergeant of Arms was new member Heidi . She announced there were 19 members and 2 guests Julia Neimanus and Marriotte Hares.
Paul Codi said he felt very ill Wednesday night when the Habs lost in the last second. I suspect he is feeling better now. Perhaps some one should check on him Saturday night.
Linda had good news. Larry had good news as he has convinced Aecon to help out Kidsability for $3000.
Erica had lots of news. First she found a 100 dollars. She decided to treat her parents to lunch. On the way home she got a speeding ticket. She seemed genuinely surprised. However it is common knowledge that she has a lead foot.( Last year I applied for life insurance and I got rated. It seems that riding to Rotary with Erica to Rotary is considered an extreme sport but I digress...) What I was surprised is they didn't catch her on BBM.

Kourtney Beckman was introduced by our President Elect Cayley . She is the fundraising chair for Anselma House and Haven House in Cambridge. The plan is to break ground in June 2015 to build a virtual identical building to the one in Kitchener. The lot is on Acorn street and Elgin street in Cambridge. I found it interesting as I recall a time where the crisis shelters were a secret. I am told now, that the view is it is not shameful to ask for help. ( security cameras and a fenced yard probably help.)
Once there, woman and children are taught how to protect their privacy. In Cambridge the current facility has room for 30 beds and the new facility will have 45. Average time staying is 16 weeks. If I heard correctly there were a total of 96 children helped last year.
In KW they have a nurse and a dentist that visits weekly. . The new facility will have a industrial sized kitchen, a music therapy room, children's play room, teen room, and private rooms for meetings to take place. The goal is to give a healthy structured safe environment.
Sadly the demand for these facilities is very strong. Last year in the region there were 6000 domestic calls On average every hour and 26 minutes there is a call. Statistically 80% never call.
If you would like to sponsor a room they are looking for $30000.
Brian Waddell thanked Kourtney for inviting us and Pres Katie gave the official club thanks.
Directors and committee chairs are encouraged to add their content to our website, and I'm happy to point them to online training. It's not so tough once you get into it.
A lot of the stuff that gets send around by email would really be more useful on our website, where members, prospective members, and the community can see what we do.
