Heidi introduced our guest speaker, Ashton Adams of Kyngdom Studios and Records. Ashton manages a recording studio and rehearsal space in Cambridge. He has a vision and this is a very interesting concept. He is inspired by Black DJs and producers from the 70s and 80s. Also the disco sounds of that time period. "Let you go " is a single that he has co-produced. He grew up here in Cambridge and went to Jacob Hespeler HS. He liked sports and went to Simon Fraser on a football scholarship. He got in to music through his local Baptist Church. After university he decided on a career in music and music production. He spent 5 years in Miami learning about the music industry. He wanted to stay here in Cambridge so set up his studio and rehearsal space here. It is a complex process and needs contacts in the music industry, legal advice etc. He feels there is a lot to talent in this area. He wants to foster this creativity and gives ' how to ' advice in the local high schools. He has worked with Justin Bieber and also Brad Sousa from Cambridge. He talked about respecting the artist and their personal space. A concept that fans sometimes forget. The concept of ' house music' began as an underground genre started by Black Musicians in Chicago at the 'house'. then things evolved to 'techno' in Detroit and then on to the music culture in England. Very interesting. Thanks Ashton and good luck! Larry B wants to know what You Tube is. He still has his funky jumpsuit from the '80s. Remember Tears for Fears , The BeeGees etc? Next week is our review of year past. Cheerio. Enjoy our new level one freedom. |
