Opening and Sgt at Arms Report
President Heidi welcomed us with bells.
Jim McPherson read the 4 way test upside down and backwards. We did a toast.
Larrissa said we had 18 of our Motley Cru present ( road warriors, bikers, purveyors of snake oil, money lenders, makers of laws and sausage, friends of the road and friends of the heart, and real estate agents.) and our guest speaker Paul.
50-50 Draw

None today.

Good News
Paul Cody had some sort of surgery on his short comings. He recommends it . He also got some new wiper blades for his car. His car is happy too.
Jeff Hunter shared his CEOs statement about how Langs has provided support and testing at the homeless isolation centre.  This is for the homeless who have contacted Covid. I think they have had 88 cases so far.
Mike Thomas told us how his youngest daughter was coping with the Polar Vortex effect down in Texas. Pipes are frozen but managing to keep warm.
Heidi said that it was decided at the last board meeting that we can invite non-Rotarian colleagues to join us in our weekly Zoom meetings.
Rena and Linda said that the February Fun-Raiser Trilogy continues. This is a Noah and Nicole project. The last one was Bad Hair Day and Noah's dream came true as he wore a hair piece from Alexanians. Flaunt it while you can. Lastly, Alternate Career day is coming up on Feb 24th. Go crazy. Live the dream!

Rena reminded us of the ' Coldest Night of the Year' walk coming up this Saturday at GCC at 11am to 2 pm. $7000 has already been raised. For $150 you get a tuque [ toke.?..I'm not a good speller] Murray P. will clear the path with his snowblower. After the walk you can gather at the ' Halfway House'...outdoors at GCC.  Watch out for steaming couples stuck to electric fences.
Seriously folks, consider taking a walk on Feb 20th. More details and registration stuff in Rena's email.

A plug for GCC. They do takeout. Think Ribeye steak kit for $24.00. Not bad.

Jokester
Paul McMenemy was in fine form today. A great joke. It happened at the GCC. An old couple celebrating the past re-enacted a passionate and corpulent [ copulent] event of years past on the golf green by the river . They sustained a big power boost from the electric fence. Sounded better when Paul told it.

Announcements and Upcoming Events
At the last board meeting, it was decided that we would do a Community Project . This would be done in Roger's year. We would budget $3-5000 and apply for a District Grant. If you have any ideas let Heidi and the board know.

We have all received an email from Heidi about joining the Brampton Club for their weekly meeting at noon on Monday Feb 22nd. Dr Chocarro is speaking about the Covid Vaccines. This is a complex subject and may well be worth hearing about. Details are all in the email. But meeting code is 940 0824 5718 and PC 138870.

There will be no Veterans Golf Tournament and fund raiser this coming spring. The committee is considering other venues in the fall

Club Job Openings
Helping out our two ' Speaker Seekers' . Coming up with a good speaker every week is no easy task.
Program
Mike Thomas introduced our speaker, Paul Rak. He owns a metal fabrication plant in the Franklin/ Bishop area. They make parts for ships and platforms for Helicopters to land on. Also road closure trailors ( for the signs), railway parts and manure tanks. I was intrigues by the latter. The manure ferments and makes usable methane. Also makes the manure odorless. Wow. What about beer instead of manure?
Paul has grown his business and in the process made it more profitable and a better place to work by reducing energy usage and sensible measures like regular machine maintainance.
With these measures he has seen profits rise by 32%. Electricity and Natural Gas use are down inspite of a much larger building.
Paul gave us a great talk. He is obviously an energetic guy who is continually working on these ideas. Maybe not everyone could do this.
But this tells us that manufacturing can be more sustainable and ' green'. So can other businesses. And be more profitable to boot.
There should be more political will behind this kind of effort. ( my comment)
Thanks Paul.

Roger Mann is up next week speaking about International Service.

Have a good walk on Saturday.
