Stories
Opening and Sgt at Arms Report
President Chad brought the meeting to order. Jocelyn did the 4 way test and Erica did a traditional Rotary Invocation. We toasted Canada and Rotary.
Sergeant at Arms Jim J reported 24 members present, 2 visiting Rotarians (Michael Reuter from Washington State and Jay Gelva from South Africa) and 2 guests: Katie Hamilton (guest speaker); and Bob Bedford.

50-50 Draw

Johnny Smooth cranked up the volume and the confusion.  A couple people got some handouts (left over golf tourney prizes). Graham and Marcia both lost and the pot is now somewhere in the $300 range.
Good News
Bob B jumped up, and after quite a bit of preamble, presented Paul T with a mug from a garage sale put on by one of Paul's ex-wives.  Paul thought he had lost it and was happy to get it back.

Jokester
No joke again this week.  Jokester Paul, go ahead and dig into the archives.  It's OK to shock the District Governor next week.

Announcements and Upcoming Events
Marcia - Euchre Fest on Friday night was a big success.  Thank you all for coming and the club raised $1505 for charity.
Marcia also says that Tom Hagey, the publisher of the community websites KW Now and Cambridge Now, is offering to promote our club and events for free.  Let's keep that in mind!
Pres Chad - Thanked Randy C for donating his 50/50 winnings on Friday night back to the charity we were supporting.
Pres Chad reminded all members to fill out their meal orders on Thursday as soon as they arrive.  Please get your chit together*.
Randy C - Thanked members for representing the club in presenting bursaries at local high school graduations.
Randy also gave us an early preview of the spring golf tournament.  Tickets this  year will be $200 per player or $65 for dinner alone.  He obviously has the organization well under way, with several big ticket auction items already committed.
Paul T - Reminded us all that the Satellite Club evening meetings are a good alternate to our regular Thursday meetings.  2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month, 5:30 to 6:30.   The last meeting had 15 attendees.
Rena - The Food Bank is launching their Toasty Toes campaign for homeless folks.  Buy some socks, drop them off at the Food Bank in Galt.

SAVE the DATE:
Next Week's Meeting - District Governor Lesley Barmania will be speaking on the 2019-2020 Goals & Objectives of District 7080. Our club is hosting this 3 Club meeting. Please make an effort to attend.

Program
Bob Bedford grabbed the spotlight for a second time this meeting to introduced today's speaker, Katie Hamilton. Katie spoke to us about the local Soroptimist Club, 25 women who are dedicated to helping girls achieve their maximum career potential.  She spoke about two programs that they run:
  • Live Your Dream -  Bursaries to help women upgrade their qualifications.  Details, including application, are available at soroptimistcambridgeON.org
  • Dream It Be It - A new program launching on Nov.16, matching female mentors with high school girls to expand their career horizons.  They have 50 mentors which they are planning to match with 100 girls.  The mentors spend an  hour or two each month in conversation with their matches.  If you would like to be a mentor or know a girl that could use some guidance, go to dreamitbeitcambridge.com

Clay thanked Katie, and Chad closed the meeting.
