Stories
Opening and Sgt at Arms Report
Pres Jim chaired today. Chris A read us the 4-way test and Paul M gave the invocation, thankful for the peace that we all enjoy.  Rena announced 30 members and four guests today.  Our guests were Paul Osborne and Paula Barrett from Conestoga College, Kim Gagne (with Chad) and Karen Stewart (with Mike).

Health and Good Cheer
No report today.
50-50 Draw
Chris W ran the show.  She drew her own ticket, so I had to intervene to prevent her from winning the pot.  After Chris lost, Marcia also lost.
Good News
Florence is retiring from out club and moving to Alberta to start a new career.  You can keep up with her on Facebook, but not email since her email address has changed.
Matt is going to Tuscany for two weeks.
Chris W is back in Cambridge, having been gone since mid-Feb.  Her and Wally were golfing, cycling, and cruising in South Caroling and Florida.  Wally is fine after his nasty bike accident.  Glad he had out-of-country insurance, since the repair bill was US$33,000.
Paul TC tasted the region this week, along with his body guard and chaperone.
Pres Jim learned how to drive his Corvette in Nevada, from an ex-Indy driver.  Then went to cinqo de maio.
Jokester
Jokester Paul M told a repeat joke about a Newfie farmer.  Has he run out of jokes, you ask?  No...he claims to have many more, but is tired of ducking rotten tomatoes.  Wanted to stay on proven safe ground.
There is a job opening for a joke pre-screener or maybe even a full committee.

Program
Todd's love affair with the microphone continued this week as he introduced Paul Osborne, Associate VP Marketing from Conestoga College.  If you didn't think Conestoga College has much impact on the local community, Paul was here to clear that up.  Some of the high points:
  • 1200 full time employees
  • over 170 local employers have up-skilled existing employees through CC, including with custom courses
  • 55% of local adults have studied or trained at CC
  • 65% of graduates settle locally
  • CC graduates contribute $2.3 billion per year to the local economy, more than the three local universities combined
  • they have a chef school with a restaurant !
  • conducts applied research to help local small and medium businesses
    • their Applied Research Department is coming to the new Cambridge Gaslight District, focusing on e-waste recycling, smart manufacturing, and cyber-security.
Most of Paul's presentation was credible, but then he described Conestoga engineers beating Waterloo engineers in a national competition.  That didn't add up for me... sounded like fake news.  I struggled to thank today's presenter.
