Heidi introduced Larry Brokenshire who did his re-classification talk...a sort of ' Who was I' and a ' Who am I '.
Wow Larry has sure done a lot and still does. I think we all know that but it is impressive when all laid out.
I asked Larry for his written notes on this talk and got 4 pages of small type. I am not going to type them out but will hit the some of the high points.
Larry has just retired from Aecon. But will still do consulting work etc. Once in his career he owned a lime green jump suit....he said it matched his skin colour back then.
In 1954 he was the fastest swimmer in North America in the under age 12 group. He played Polo as well and looking at some of the photographs he was good with his hands as well.
He was a Mechanical Tech Grad from Ryerson in '66. He started work at Adam Clark Co. in Hamilton shortly thereafter. He has worked his way up the ladder, working for several companies notably Nicholls Radtke, and lastly with Aecon as it grew into a 3 divisions of 15,000 employees.
He has the dubious honour of being President of our club in '96 and again in 2012. He has been knighted six times by Paul Harris.
He has traveled extensively both with Aecon and Rotary. The Group Study exchange for Rotary to South Korea in 2002 was a highlight. The Korean GSE team came back here and planted a tree in our Rotary Park in Hespeler. He has helped Dennis Birley build homes in the Dominican Republic.
He is on the Board of Directors for De Novo which is a union sponsored Drug and Alcohol Rehab facility in Sundridge . He has volunteered at Homewood Psychiatric Facility in the drug and alcohol treatment department.
Larry has two birthdays, one for his belly button and one for the Fellowship that he belongs to.
He has a lovely family and proudly showed us pictures of kids, spouses and grandkids. He married Rosanne in 2008 and she brought two daughters and their families into the picture.
I will leave it at that but I think you get the picture.
And to cap things off Paul McMenemy walked in at the end of the meeting and told a joke about how UPS delivery men have a lot of ' horse sense.'
