There were 2 parts to the Programme. Bill Mitchell spoke about Wilf Reich's long and admirable career as a Rotarian. He is one of our longest serving members. He received his first Paul Harris award in 2000 and has generously donated money to our Charitable Foundation for the purpose of fostering small business startups. D.G. John Gilvesy presented Wilf with his 3rd Paul Harris Award. He sets a fine example for us. Congratulations Wilf. Then Chris Wood introduced District Governor, John Gilvesy. He hails from Tillsonburg and belongs to the Rotary Club there. He has travelled to India. He believes that reducing poverty will reduce conflict in the world. He said we live fortunate lives, also that communication is key, and that we have something to deliver to the less fortunate and what we end up delivering is hope. He said we need to strengthen our clubs through new members, and by increasing our profile and public image. Social media can help us. People still do not know what we do. Communication of skills and ideas between clubs will benefit us. RI wants every Rotarian to commit $100 to the Rotary Annual Fund. This money can come back to help our clubs. Also RI wants every Rotarian to commit $100 to Polio Plus. Also the Rotary Club of Tillsonburg has a project to support microfinance in the Honduras. This would facilitate small loans to poor entrepreneurs who have no other way of getting a loan. He wants each club in this district to commit $1500. to this. Our club is on the cusp of doing so. There were some questions for John and he was thanked by Megan. |
