Paul T Cody introduced our speaker and District Governor, Leslie Barmania. Her Rotary Achievements are legion. She has been District International Service Director, served on the Grants committee, also involved in RLI foundation and FQT programme. She has worked on the Ryla training programme and was Rotarian of the Year in 2016. She said she was here to celebrate our Community Service Projects. She wanted to emphasize these points: 1/ that we succeed when working together.2/ the impact of Rotary on the world. 3/ the need for change (in Rotary). Consider lives impacted by community service projects. Polio eradication was an idea of one club but succeeded because of the efforts of many clubs. Think about 'cluster' projects among local clubs to get more bang for your money and effort. Rotarians deliver 45 million houirs of volunteer time / yr. There are many Rotary highlights over time such as Rotary exchange, starting Unesco, helping draw the UN charter, Polio plus and recently the Shelter box tent and kit project. Rotary numbers are dropping in Europe and North America. We need to think of innovation and positive change. Make Rotary interesting. Leslie was thanked by Clayton. Some of our local club initiatives. 1/ Roger Mann spoke of a water purification project in the Yucatan and our satellite club meeting on Tuesday evenings. Members that cannot leave work in the day can now attend. 2/ Lauren from Cambridge North spoke of building a gazebo in Bechtel Park and many local projects such as fundraising for Langs and the Foodbank, 3/Mike Lawrie from Sunrise spoke of the ' sleeping children around the world project' and local projects including fundraising for the hospital. Meeting adjourned. |
