Sergeant at Arms report
President Cayley, who looked well rested despite the exhausting curling weekend, opened the meeting in the Basement of the Country club. Luckily there was not a full house and it would have been tight quarters. Next week its back upstairs and we can then try out the new dance floor.  Tyrone recited the four way test and Dr. Tom said a little longer Grace.
Patrick was SAA. We had 18 members and 1 guest - there was confusion as to who's guest but hopefully not for long as it sounds like Florence is getting of tired of standing up as a guest. Florence is from Meridian guest of Cayley or Paul. We missed O Canada ....what Country is Murray in this week? Perhaps down in the DR with Mike T. or down closer to Florida with Chris and Wally.
Health and Good Cheer
George was back from the West coast where it was 15 and sunny - hoping he brought the sun back here to Ontario.
Wilf - keep in your thoughts as he had a hyernia operation - would love visitors and hoping for speedy recovery.
Del - former member of the club is in palliative care - his daughter Katherine was a member more recently.
Audrey Bendus who was one of the first women in Rotary in Cambridge passed away at age 61 - she was a past president of the club and was very much a dedicated Rotarian. We had some fun playing baseball, karoke night and many entertaining  board meetings.
Claudette Miller, former long time Mayor of Cambridge is not doing very well
Paul Kloenermann former President of Babcox and Executive at Aecon passed away suddenly in an accident on the 400 highway.
We are thinking of all of those that are not well and wish them a quick recovery, also those families that have suffered a loss of their loved one - they are in our thoughts and prayers.
50 50 Draw

50/50 Draw was hosted by Dennis, and won by Dennis.......hmmmmm is that part of the four way test.....?????

Good News
Dennis - won the 50/50 - we should be adding good news as he will be away for a few weeks - Florida and the Dominican Project
Matt. M - had a great time curling in Guelph with Neil Main, Paul T. and a recruit from Burlington Club. They made it to the .....bar.
Cayley - had good news curling with Gary Dyke, Chris Wood and Murray Pearson....they almost clinched it...however, walked away with consolation - or third place. Still great that two teams particpated.
We will be hosting next year so get those curling shoes out and give it a try. Should be a great time.
Erica - back from a family holiday and everyone had a fabulous time - 15 people all together ages ranged from  4 years -87
Announcements and Upcoming Events

There will be a party for our club and The Jonas' on Feb 6th. Just after ground hog day so I suppose we will be pondering how long winter is going to last. In keeping with the redneck groundhog theme - John mentioned ugly shirt would be a great theme. Bring your bathing suit and the ugliest shirt you can find. John bought some moonshine for the "stahl" drinkers. 7pm......3am. Family welcome. 39 Fallbrook Lane - if you hit langdon Hall you have gone too far.

Thank you from the child witness centre for our donation as well  as our sponsorship to support the grade 8 students. The funding helps bring in motivational speakers to encourage and motivate students.

Program
Marsha introduced Corrine Witteveen. Corrine is a partner at Cambridge Midwives and gave us a good talk on midwifery.
Corrine's first career was in event planning and then she did a 4 year midwifery degree at MacMaster University.
Her partner Steve was along to help with the slides etc. They have 3 kids. Corrine is active in a running club and is involved in her church and community.

Midwifery has been a regulated Health Profession since 1994.
Pregnant women can directly refer themselves to Cambridge Midwives. Midwives can take care of the whole pregnancy and do home visits up to six weeks after delivery which is good continuity of care. They are able to spend more time with their patients. It is covered by OHIP.
Their mandate is to deal with low risk pregnancies. They can do home or hospital deliveries and consult with physicians as needed.
Different communities have different rules. In Cambridge, if an epidural is needed they have to go into hospital.
Out of 142,000 births in Ontario, midwifes did 10% of the deliveries, that percentage is higher in Waterloo Region.

There were questions. Martin wanted to know if he could have an epidural if he got pregnant. There is a small risk to epidurals but the rate of epidurals is increasing. Dennis wanted to know if he could be attended upon by a midwife. Larry wanted to know if having a baby was more painful that passing a kidney stone. Who knows but caring for a kidney stone is significantly cheaper that raising a child. Please note that all of these questions were asked by men???

Corrine was thanked by Jim McPherson
