Paul T Cody introduced our very own Caitlin McIntyre who spoke about Rotaract. Rotaractors are young Rotarians on average 18 to 25 years. Interactors are even younger and do clubs in high school. Rotaract clubs help serve the community in conjunction with their " parent" Rotary Club. Caitlin joined (formed ) a Rotaract Club last year. She was immediately promoted to President and her friend became vice President. Unfortunately they seem to be the only ones that attend meetings and do activities. Things are looking grim. What to do? Prospective members graduate from high school and leave town to go to University etc leaving Cambridge in the lurch. University Rotaract Clubs in towns that have universities are managing better. High School and University Students have a lot on the go. ( We have had the same problems with Camp Enterprise with declining enrollment) Caitlin said she has not been greeted with enthusiasm at the School of Architecture or Conestoga College which are our only post secondary institutions. The audience got involved with some brainstorming and suggestions. Some were good like attaching Roteract Meetings to Rotary Meetings especially the evening meetings when they are not in class. Maybe make Rotaract more of a social group that just helps out with Rotary Club initiatives. Do a survey. Move to Europe or Brantford! Etc. Happy Halloween. |
