Opening and Sgt at Arms Report
President Rajbir welcomed us.  Vanessa said the 4 way test. We toasted Canada and Rotary around the world.

SAA report: 21 people were present including 17 Rotarians. We had 3 guests: Renee our speaker, Gerry Hill as part of her entourage and Steve Belanger, guest of his better half. Ok so that does not add up. I am not an accountant.
Good News
President Rajbir continues to enjoy babysitting his grand kids as their parents work hard in the healthcare sector.

Ivana is feeling much better after a spell with Omicron.

Chris Wood and husband are going ski-dooing at their  cottage this weekend. Stay warm.

Todd's youngest daughter has been offered a place at Dalhousie University. She is interested in marine biology. That should be very interesting and fun.

Raj said things look like they are opening up and in-person meetings may soon resume.

Announcements and Upcoming Events
Ivana said that the Crystal Drop Gala is re-scheduled for April 1st. Previous sponsors and donations, etc are intact. The committee will begin ramping up. Wine donations and sponsorships are still needed.

Program
Anne Marie Belanger introduced our guest speaker, Renee Shaidle. Renee is head coach of Orange Theory Fitness. Renee is married with two kids. She feels that their lives have been changed for the better through fitness and healthful lifestyle.
She graduated from Kinesiology at U. of Alberta and has been in the business for 35 years. She is also interested in foods that heal.

Today she brings us 5 strategies to promote wellness in the workplace ( home, officer) during this time of Covid and beyond.

1/ increase hydration. Drink that extra glass of water / day. But other drinks ok too. More fluids helps with temperature regulation and increased urine output gets rid of toxins. Plus us old dudes get extra fit going back and forth to the Loo.
But don't drink coffee on an empty stomach. Have a snack with it. Otherwise it causes a cortisol spike and blood sugar deregulation.

2/ Schedule breaks from sitting or whatever position you work in every 45 min. It is not wise to sit for long periods. Try for 10,000 steps / day but even small activities during breaks burn calories.

3/ Create a challenge in your workplace. Ask people to strive for 10.000 steps / day or 500 squats / day. Recognise the winner in a small way.

4/ Renee gave us six stretches to do during our break periods. Try to do each one about 5 times. Breathe in and out while doing them, These help with posture and lessen fatigue.

5/Keep your work place tidy and don't eat at your desk. This is a source of unwanted calories. Also cuts down of furry friends being found in your printer. So get up to go to eat and do stretches along the way.

So make it happen, be consistent and accountable.
We had some questions.
Thank you, Renee, for an energizing talk. Also thanks for the introductory offers to your gym. I think Larry is going to send us details of these offers on Club Runner.
