Opening and Sgt at Arms Report

We had a pre-meeting slide show arranged by Brian Waddell. Lots of shots of events and fun activities, also friendly faces past and present. Thanks Brian.

President Paul presided and Mark H. recited the 4 way test.
Ben did the invocation and we toasted Rotary and Canada.

SAA was none other than Florence. We had 25 Rotarians present and 5 guests; Max, Nicole, Denise ( our speaker), Rachel ( the opera singer) and Ali.

Cayley mentioned that we have made a donation to Lissard House in memory of David Cooper. David passed away recently, he was Heather's husband.
Health and Good Cheer
As above, Cayley mentioned our donation to Lissard house. No other health and good cheer.
50-50 Draw
Mike Irwin was the officionado, we have over $1000 in the pot. Marcia and Paul T. were unsuccessful. The Pot continues.
Good News

Florence's brother got his RPN.

Matt Morris attended a small Curling Bonspiel in Harriston and did well. They came in second overall. Matt is now off to Florida.

Chris Wood is just back from Grenada where they rented a villa. She said it was a great place to have a family vacation.  Now she is off to Myrtle Beach and then Florida so will see us again in May.

Linda Breault said that the Gala last friday night was a success and did well as a first time fundraising event. She thanked the Rotarians who attended.
Also she saw a City Bus hit a small car driven by a young woman last night on Blair Rd. Not sure who was at fault but the car lost the battle, the driver was shaken but ok. Maybe this should have come under health and good cheer??
Jokester Paul

Was there a Joke? I don't recall. If there was then my apologies. We came home from Whitehorse on the red eye, landing at Pearson at 5 am. The plane was one of those massive, ten seat across flying sardine cans. Suffice to say, today's editor was mentally fogged, ears plugged but cannot blame hearing aids that were functioning prefectly.

Announcements and Upcoming Events

Jeff Hunter thanked us for our support of the Fundraiser last Friday night.
Rachel and Jeff presented a bouquet of flowers  to Linda as a thankyou. Rachel is also on the board of the Cambridge Self Help Food Bank.
Rachel spoke of the Food Banks fundraising efforts to expand their warehouse.
As such there will be the 3rd Annual Pat in the Hat fundraiser at the Cambridge Centre on March 24 and 25th. Pat Singleton the Executive Director of the Food Bank will spend a grueling 36 hrs in the Hat to gain sponsorships. Yes you can bring things to throw at Pat while she is in the hat ( not non perishable food items please), but she can throw things back and is a very good shot.

Cayley also spoke highly of the Fundraiser last Friday night.  Also of the upcoming Rotary Bonspiel that our club runs. They are looking for prizes. Tickets are $85/ curler and its on March 30th.

Linda B. spoke of our club's fundraising Golf Tournament in May. There was a meeting after this meeting today. The tournament theme is ' Support Local Veterans'.

Paul T. also said it was great to see Rotarians out last Friday night.

Program
Linda introduced Denise Lowe, our guest speaker,  who is a retired teacher and basket ball coach, who now works at network marketing and wellness consultation.
She has a passion to help people with their life challenges.
She spoke of her own experiences.
She said that life challenges fall into 4 areas; relationships, finances, physical and mental issues.
She said that people need a positive perspective to overcome challenges. Also that one should develop a sense of gratitude in spite of trying circumstances.
She has written a soon to be published book , " The Fighter Within". If we buy a copy she will donate $5 to Rotary from each sale.
Denise was thanked by Chris Wood.

President Paul said that Leslie Urquhart will be doing her ' Who am I '  next week and also that the Rotary Meeting of April 20th will be off site at Kids Ability in Waterloo.
