Good News
The two Pauls and Jim M. were wearing stone necklaces. A combination of Fred Flintstone attire and also remeniscent of some cult. Supposed to bring inner peace and also appear as being friendly. Friendly?? like having one of us for a barbecue.

Ben Jeffries says he is happy that he still recognises some of us.

Mike Thomas echoed that sentiment. Also that he and Karen saw a murder on Highway 400 when they were driving down. Anything can happen on that highway but it was a murder of crows...look it up.

Jokester

Announcements and Upcoming Events

Raj said we were having a couple of items next week to do with hospitals. CEO of Cambridge Memorial, Patrick Gaskin will be our guest speaker and also how Rotary is helping rebuild part of Cancun hospital, specifically the maternal and child health departments.

Ivana spoke of the Crystal Drop Gala on January 29th. Apropos our initiative to promote clean water and the environment, we are raising funds to provide clean drinkable water in  our own Indigenous communities. The committee is looking for  ticket sales and sponsorship
from our club. Corporate tables are available. Also we are collecting full bottles of wine. Please bring these to a meeting.
This will be a Great Event: Live and Silent Auctions, 4 course meal, Cambridge Symphony and an award winning live band, The Paul James Band.

Also, the last meeting before Christmas is at noon of Wednesday, December 22nd. Come for some Holiday Cheer.
Club Job Openings
We do need another Bulletin Editor. I think it would be a good time for someone to' learn the ropes' and they could begin by filling in occasionally.
Also we have a deaf Bulletin Editor presently on staff!!

Program
Our guest speaker, Sam Murray spoke to us via Zoom. She was introduced by Jim McPherson.  Sam is a third party fundraiser and has designed several fundraising programmes. She also has an international development background. She is presently working at ' Water First"
which is where our fundraising from the Crystal Drop Gala will be going.
Water First partners with Indigenous Groups/ Communities via education and training to provide drinkable water.
Water First was first working in Uganda, but in 2013 it relocated in Canada to help indigenous communities, many of which are under water advisories for unsafe drinking water.
They provide a 15 mo internship that trains community members. The first community was on Manitoulin Island and the internship programme proved to be a success.
Water First relies on Rotary Clubs and private sources for financial support as government grants are slow.
The internship provides longterm skills for the community.
Another internship programme is the environmental water programme which focuses on indigenous eco-tourism and clean up of lakes and campsites.
There are also safe water programmes taught in the community schools.
Sam thanked us for doing our Crystal Drop Fundraiser.
Sam was thanked by Ivana.

editor's note: How safe is our water? We get it out of the Grand River.
Have a safe week.
