Opening and Sgt at Arms Report
President Paul opened the meeting today.  Pedro led us in Oh Canada and  Dr. Tom gave the Invocation.
Chad was SAA.  We had 21 Rotarians present and 4 guests (Danielle Ratford, Michael Irwin, Roseanne and our guest speaker Tamara Louks from Grand River Film Festival).
50-50
Dennis tantalized Jim M and Pres Paul with $122, but they were both shown to be losers (this week).
Health and Good Cheer
George told us that Tony J’s wife was being induced in the afternoon, so there will no be another Johal.  Congratulations Tony!
No further word on whether the blue pills were helping Dr. Tom.

Good News
Jim M and Pres Paul partnered on 50/50 and won $300.  I didn't catch the details.
Chris W and her husband Wally went on another vacation, biking in Germany and Austria.  It sounded pretty good.  All downhill. She liked it a lot.
Jim M was kind to Mike at last week's Oktoberfest launch.
Sandra asked for sponsorships in a fun run/walk.
Jokester Paul
Paul was MIA today.

Announcements
Pres. Paul thanked the club for all of our contributions through our fundraising season, and pointed out a few members for special recognition.  John and Roseanne for Oktoberfest, Erica for Best Bites, new member Joe for a tough job with Roses (and also a prominent role in Oktoberfest), and Linda for giving her organizing talents to all three events. Thank you all!
Rotary Roses – Joe informed us that there were 803 dozen sold. Financials tba.
Oktoberfest – John and Roseanne are starting to plan for next year.  It went well, and we raised a lot of money for Lauren and Kim.  Greg Durocher says the chamber will be is more on-board and give us more support in 2017.  Financials tba.
Chris A has sponsorship opportunities for Drayton Entertainment this season, so contact him directly for that.
Chris W – the Scottish curlers will be here soon, starting Nov.15.  They will be curling that day and next.  Let Chris know if you want to compete against them.
Jim M – The Rotary Fun Run 2017 needs another committee member who’s good with numbers.
Linda – a fundraising strategy session is coming soon to a weekly meeting.  We will discuss our current fundraisers, but especially think about adding a new fundraiser that is not in the fall.

Program
Sandra introduced Tamara Louks, who was visiting to promote the upcoming 2017 Grand River Film Festival
Tamara talked a bit about the film industry and how tough it is for Canadian producers and directors to get a project on a screen in and front of audiences.  GRFF is part of their distribution channel.  She also talked about this year's films...13 full length features and 9 shorts.  A few facts about GRFF:
  • GRFF is 10 years old this year
  • 2859 attendees last year
  • run by a hard-working fully-volunteer board.
  • Opening night is monday Oct.24
  • Tickets are $15 online, or $10 at Scotiabank branches.  Scotiabank is the major corporate sponsor, making up the difference.
  • Check the website www.grff.ca for the full schedule, movie trailers, and lots more details.
Tamara noted that City of Cambridge is sponsoring Industry Day on Oct.28, 3pm to 7pm on main floor at City Hall.  It's a film trade show with latest equipment and workshops, including women in film, independent film distribution, and the changing face of sketch comedy.
