Sandra Peltier introduced Executive director Geoffrey Reekie. What i learned Existed in Cambridge since 1954 started with school for 12 children now serves 500 individuals ,24 group homes and support for 20 additional apartment sites with 150 beds. most of the homes are in neighbourhoods with maybe 4 clients in them. (depending on care needed, they are staffed accordingly)Handicaps range from physical to mental) Day programs are offered , sports , baseball , basketball. ( I think i heard that one resident had been to special Olympics. Some clients have been there for a while. DR Tom recognized one of his patients. Megan gave the thanks and Pres Chad gave the official club thanks. We then broke up in 2 groups for a tour Group 1 went to their first group home( unusual as it is larger ( maybe 8 or 9 residents) there were 2 wings men on one side women on the other. These residents need more care and they would have 2 staff during the night. Group 2 went to different spot. This building does day programs. ( today they were sorting pictures) Trips to Stone Road Mall , Value village. Movie Theatre are popular. ( the new Lion King movie was recommended. ( couldn't help but noticed that conditions were a lot different in the Dominican Republic. |
