Bob Bedford introduced Christine Lakatos from Urban Hope which is the outreach arm of Cambridge Vineyard, a non-denominational church. Christine said that she and her husband did outreach work in the slums of LA and SE Asia untill they had children, now their focus is here in this community. Their facility is at 147 Elgin St N. which is the old Monastry building just before Elgin St ends at the railway tracks. In a nut shell they provide food and support for the homeless and down-trodden in our Community. They have a church and daycare at their facility. They act as an over-flow for the Bridges. They are blessed by being given the day old goodies from Cobbs Bakery. They can feed 200 and have a hairdresser to offer haircuts to the homeless. They provide food and ministry down at the Bus terminal where homeless and sex trade workers hang out. They would love to have a halfway house for the recently incarcerated to prevent return to former drug habits and prostitution . Those are the facts but Christine seemed truly dedicated and committed to her ministry. That would be hands on helping, being there for people in jail, court and on the street. Trying to keep mom and her kids together. Giving hope. ' Wrap around' support to help people get on their feet and be witness of these efforts to agencies like F and CS. Christine asks that we consider participating in or contributing to their ' Coldest Night of the Year Walk' on Fed 22nd 2020. I think we can contact Cambridge Vineyard online to donate or participate. They have no government funding. Have a good day. |
