President Jim opened the meeting, Sandra read the 4 way test . The Invocation was presented by Dr. Tom. There were 20 Rotarians and three guests: Caitlyn McIntyre, Matt Hanley (both guest of one of the Paul's), and our speaker, Ken Bell.
John Jonas ran the show again this week. He made my job difficult by delivering a series of irrelevant statements and then confusing the amount of the pot. I think it's just north of $300. In any case, our guest Caitlyn and Paul T were both losers.
Dr. Tom - Camp Enterprise (May 1 to May 3). Two drivers are needed for the morning of Tues, May 1, to drive Southwood students over to University of Waterloo. Todd volunteered on the spot, so contact Dr. Tom to fill the last slot.
Cathy G - Superhero Run (May 27) - The event is looking for sponsors, so contact Cathy soon to get your company logo on the T-shirts and other marketing materials. Sandy also mentioned that the committee has lined up solid media coverage so we're looking forward to a big event.
Paul TC - Veteran's Golf Tourney - Sponsorships and foursomes are nearly sold out, so get in touch with Paul or Linda to get in. The event does need some volunteers on the day - contact Paul or Linda.
Sandy - Last call for Springtime in Paris event, Saturday night, put on by the Cambridge Symphony Orchestra. There are a few tickets left at http://www.cambridgeorchestra.ca/
Kayley - Tree planting at RARE (Blair Rd.) on April 22. Show up there at 10am with a shovel, gloves, and dressed for the weather.
Mike introduced Dr. Ken Bell, who is the former Superintendent of Waterloo County Board of Ed and Director of Education of the Winnipeg Board.
Ken loves the north. He spoke to us a few weeks ago about education in northern Canada. Today he gave us a travel log of a 250km kayak trip he and his wife and some friends did in the area of Pond Inlet, Baffin Island. Look on Google Maps. It's way up there. They enjoyed peanut butter on crackers, served with wine. They also wore the same undies for 14 straight days, which he speculated kept the polar bears away (they didn't see any). His wife Liz went too, and their marriage survived.
Kayley thanked Ken for giving us a view of a part of Canada that few of us will ever see.
