New member Todd who has never said no to a podium, was to introduce new member Mark Nykamp. Even though Chad skipped Membership minute we got one from Todd. Apparently the 50 50 draw with Joker or Ace was started by Todd. The pod system was also started by Todd. The Board will now meet and vote that the pod system will be forever know as the Todd system. So if you are on the Todd and you are unable to make it please find a replacement. Oh yes Todd shops at Mark's Home Hardware and says the service is good. I have known Todd for a long time and he wouldn't shop there if the price wasn't right too. Mark Nykamp didn't have slides and or pictures. We discovered he has a unique sense of humor. In his younger days he was a swimmer and far handsomer than he is to today. 50 pounds later he is happy if he floats!! He currently resides in Waterloo. He has 2 children that he is quite fond of. His wife has PHD in something. His younger sister is a vet at U of G. His father is a past Rotarion and the local Coroner. Mark was used to helping out at Rotary as a kid and welcomed the chance when Cathy Gosse asked him to join. Small world but "Lauren" who was beneficiary of a van we purchased 2 years ago is part of Marks extended family. Lauren father is a long term employee.. After deciding that genetics wasn't his thing, he left a Masters program at U of Manitoba to come home and start working at a Beaver Lumber. He moved up eventually to corporate office and travelled Canada. He always wanted his own store. Beaver lumber was sold to Home Hardware which delayed that transition. Eventually he got the chance 3 years ago to purchase the Cambridge store. Mark has no hobbies. Things he learned..are he never realized how important HR is to running a store. He has 30 employees. He also knows that he is smarter now than when he was in head office!! Paul Mcmenemy thanked Mark for speaking and Chad closed the meeting. PS if you have time drinks at the Mill say good bye to Florence!! Thank you again Florence you have been a very active member of this club and we all wish you well in your future out West. |
