Opening and Sgt at Arms Report
Today was our first live and zoom meeting in a long while. It felt good to see people and be back at the GCC.
President Rajbir opened the meeting.
We toasted Canada and Rotarians around the world.
Tom S. said the 4 way test.
Raj made a few comments about Rotary. He spoke of discovering the magic of Rotary. ' Grow more and do more' in the words of our International President. Bring a guest. Rotary is where strangers become life-long friends.

SAA report: 17 live Rotarians and our guest Frank Newman. We had zoomers present as well. I forgot to count but at least 2.
50-50 Draw

Finally a live 50/50 draw with Jonas the Bonas officiating. Messrs Sczepski and Cody were LOOSERS.

Good News
Past Pres Heidi said we had been approved for a grant to support the Food Bank's Mobile Food truck. Cheque received.
Clayton said he was just happy to be back at a real live meeting.
Vanessa said that her husband was to have a lung biopsy today. But the pre-op MRI showed no lump. So it was cancelled. Now that is good news.
Jim Johnson was admonished for his phone ringing during the meeting so he gave some money to Good News.
Jokester

Paul was in fine form today but I don't think he told a joke. I am still laughing about last week's joke,

Our own Matt Lantz will be MC. ( Oops, we have two Matts so I hope this is the right one.)

Heidi took the podium to present Rooky of the Year Award to Ivana. This is for showing enthusiasm and taking action as a new member. Thanks Ivana.

Program
President Rajbir introduced Frank Newman, our guest speaker. Frank is a Human Resources Professional. He has had extensive experience in several fields of business, implementing innovative HR solutions, focusing on creating a business culture where the best people do their best work every day.
His main focus today was 1/ discussing the changes in business culture as the result of Covid. 2/ considering what the future of the business world will be. What will the workplace look like for our kids and grand kids?

Frank has had his own company for 7 years.
He said the business world has not experienced such change since the Industrial revolution. But there is cautious optimism about the future.
I will touch on some issues he mentioned. Frank said that he would give a link to his talk to Rajbir if anyone wants more info.
Recent relevant issues: Black lives matter.  Sexual harrassment in the workplace. Working from home. Zoom meetings. etc etc.
Employers have had to become more agile. Employees are facing a 'gig' economy where there is more movement from job to job over a working career.  Employer agility is required to address more on-line activity, tighter profit lines, being more risk aware, supply chain issues, flexible work force etc.
Covid created a tsunami of resignations. Employers need to try and hang on to good employees.
The issue of Hybrid Teams.
Lots of mental health issues. Ask employees ' how they are doing'. Practical issues such as sick time, training changes due to covid, employee benefits, working from home and working longer and being paid less as a result. Paying less is not a good idea.
Keep in touch with employees and give performance reviews.
Treat people with respect.
What the Future Holds:  Jobs will have a strong service orientation, they will be highly technical, need fluency of ideas, need increased agility, ability to memorize and be a good networker.
Wow. He gave us a lot of food for thought. Frank was thanked by Paul McMenemy.

It was good to have a real live meeting. Please come to the President's Levy on Saturday.
