Stories
Opening and Sgt at Arms Report

President  Linda ran the meeting today.   Chris W did the Rotary 4 way test and  Marcia did the invocation.
SAA and Past Pres Jim M told us about 16 members, one visiting Rotarian (Roger Mann from Brantford), and 5 guests (Mike Mitchell, Megan Cleverly, Edris Philip, Kim Gagne, and our guest speaker Marcel Lambert).
Health and Good Cheer
No news is good news.  More kids being born than people dying off or getting hurt. (See Good News below)
50-50 Draw
Russ ran the show today.  With the longest odds and the least payout possible,  Jim M and Mike both lost.
Good News
Larry is helping open up a new substance abuse treatment centre.
Caitlin's friend is having a baby boy soon.
Dean's neighbor had a major heart attack at 55, then miraculously survived after several minutes of being clinically dead.  The hospital gave him a triple bypass then sent him home and now  he's walking around.  I wonder if any of the equipment we helped buy was involved?
Chris W is planning to become a granny twice this year, in August and December.
Roger (our visiting Rotarian) attended the RI convention in Toronto and managed to get multi-club funding for a clean water project he's working on.
Megan survived her bachelorette party.  So did one of her bridesmaids, who is having a baby today.
PP Jim, a non-golfer, put in a 60-yard chip.  He didn't say how many shots to get to that point.
Heidi visited family in Austria and went on a motorbike tour of the Dolomiti mountains in northern Italy.  She liked the view.
Jokester
An older gentleman's poor memory works out well for his much younger bride.
Announcements and Upcoming Events
This year Pres Linda is emphasizing participation.  If you haven't filled out the online participation survey, do it this week.  It's in your email inbox.
Pres Linda also reminded us that participation in other rotary activities counts toward your attendance.  To register your "alternate attendance" go to www.rotarycambridge.ca and click the prominent link in the top menu.
Save Aug.21 in your calendar.  That's the date of the summer BBQ at Marcia and Randy's place on West River Rd.  There will be no regular meeting on Aug.23.
Paul C says Best Bites is looking for sponsors and sales of discounted corporate tables.  It will be here sooner than you think!
Larry reminded us that we all have POD responsibilities in running the weekly meetings.  Look under Member Duties on www.rotarycambridge.ca to see what you need to do and when.  Now you have no excuse.

Program

Marcel Lambert spoke to us today about the Grenada Hospitals Assistance Fund (GHAF) and their work supplementing public health care in Grenada.  They work with the public health ministry in that country to fill equipment gaps, using donated funds and often taking advantage of donated used equipment and transportation services.  Marcel has been dedicating her time to the cause for over 15 years, following her father who was the president for many years before that.  GHAF is a registered Canadian charity.

For more information, visit their website at www.ghaf.ca
Sandy introduced Marcel, and Dean thanked her.
I don't think we are immunizing 10 children this week to thank the speaker.  If we are, I missed it.
