Opening and Sgt at Arms Report
President Raj opened the meeting. Neil Main said the Four Way test and the Innvocation was read by Jim Mcpherson. Raj toasted Canada and Rotarians around the world.
SAA Jim Johnson said we had 19 of the usual suspects present and at least one suspect on Zoom. Hi Bruce!  A blast from the past, John Raposo, made a real time appearance. It is good to see you, John.

Guests were our speaker Philip Mills and Rena's baby sister Dana.

50-50 Draw

The big day has finally come. 2 cards left. Curated by Johnny Smooth. Matt Lantz made it look easy and won over 1800 bucks.

Raj presented him with the cheque and gave about 10 suggestions of how he could put the money to a good cause in Rotary. Wanna be an instant Paul Harris! Why not blow it all on 6/49 tickets!!

Good News
There was finally a joke today. Paul M. was in fine form today.  A woman in a grocery store used her body parts as a grocery list. Rump Roast etc. But how would she remember to buy a cucumber?

On to Good News: Erica and friends had a great time in the Big Apple.  Then several flight delays coming home due to the comings and goings of PotUS.

It is Titi's Birthday and she has had a good party.

Rena celebrated her sister Dana's 39th birthday by bringing her to the Rotary meeting.

Announcements and Upcoming Events
Paul McMenemy said the Veteran's Golf Tournament on May 30 was shaping up really well. 16 Vets are coming. There is a reserve list so make sure you pay to secure your spot.

Paul Cody reminded us of the President's Ball on June 23rd.  Its at the Mill and no regular meeting that week.

May 26th is the Club Social at Sukhi and Nikki's place. It is out of doors so the rain date will be one week hence. Come hungry, bring your fishing rod etc. Raj, I don't have a start time. Perhaps you can send out a reminder.

Editorial tidbits: Don't forget the District 7080 Conference at Bingeman's on May 28th.

Also we need Volunteers for the Food Bank Truck locations. Also another volunteer for the editorial staff would be a dream come true. Preferrably someone with good hearing!
Program
I introduced Philip Mills, who is CEO of Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region. He has had 20 years of experience in the ' not for profit' sector. He is committed to building community and lives in Preston with his wife and 3 boys.
He has worked for Habitat for Humanity for one year.   H4H promotes the idea of ' everybody should have a safe and decent place to live.'  They primarily work with family oriented housing.
H4H was started in Georgia by a church group. The idea went overseas and then came back to North America in the '70s. Paul is very happy to have a project back in Cambridge with the Shantz Hill site.
They build and sell houses to families. The family pays the mortgage to H4H. The family's financial status is vetted to make sure they can afford the mortgage. Owning a home creates stability for the family and community.  The rental market is difficult.  Habitat's model is different from ' Affordable Housing '. Habitat does not get much government support.
He talked about the ReStore. All money raised there  goes to building homes.

Volunteers are a big part of any building project. He is excited to get started on the Shantz Hill build. Our Rotary Club can definitely help out.
Thanks Phil.
