Stories
Opening and Sgt at Arms Report
President Linda led the meeting today.

Steve Brand read the 4 way test and Noah Jensen read a long winded invocation.  ( I wasn't sure that anyone was going to get to finish their meal)  Paul McMenemy said their were 31 members present and guests were Bob Bedford , Allyson Denny , Christine Guth, Kim Gagne, and our speaker Joan Fisk.
Health and Good Cheer
Everyone is in good health today.
50-50 Draw
Johnny J ran the 50/50 which raised 172  more.  .  Rena H  and Rajbir Mann were losers but John wanted Rajbir to win
Good News
Rajbir Mann went on a vacation to Mexico but found himself  immersed in Rotary meetings while away.

After a few glasses of wine in Florida  Erica  found out she won a volunteer award  .  Her younger sister knew but kept it a secret  .   Erica accepted the award on behalf of every one from our club that helped with BEST Bites.   We are all proud of Erica as I am sure  both her older sister, Ursula and younger  sister Yvonne surely are.     Erica is back to Florida for the New Year.

Dean was impressed with Marcia's tarts and donated $20 for the cause. ( is this a new business?)

Matt M was back from  Cuba with 3 birdies for the week.

Lastly Pres Linda was proud of how everyone handled the Christmas party been cancelled at the last minute.  Many thanks for Jocelyn Maurice for accommodating our club at the Mill.

Jokester
Jokester Paul told a joke about a convent.   Adult rated and  laugh factor 7

Program
Sandra Peltier introduced our speaker Joan Fisk .  Joan is the current CEO of United Way Waterloo Region Communities.
Joan's  past positions include
Director, Gore Mutual Insurance Company Cambridge: 1999 -2017
Chair of the Board, Waterloo Wellington Local Health Integration Network: 2011 – 2017
President and CEO, Greater Kitchener Chamber of Commerce Kitchener: 2008 – 2010
President and CEO, Tiger Brand Company Ltd.: 1988 -2006

Joan touched on her life story .  Her father convincing her to come back  and help run what was then known as Tiger Brand.  She spoke about how important Branding was to  Tiger Brand.   With United Way the Brand is " Are you the One"    .  Using social media a lot of money has been raised on what is known as Giving Tuesday.   Any  donations received on Tuesday are matched by a wealthy donor.

Currently 7.2 million has been raised in the communities with an ultimate goal of 8 million.  Donations to United Way had fallen over the last decade  or so because of change of employment in the manufacturing industry.  ( large companies closing and foreign take overs)   I gather from that that United Way is looking for more donations from individuals .
Joan shared with us what she told the Board when they were looking for a new CEO.    She convinced the Board that the only way people would buy into a combined United Way that serves 7 communities was that the first CEO  had to come from Cambridge.

Joan is enjoying her role as CEO of United Way Waterloo Region Communities.   While CEO she oversaw  radical  changes with Kitchener Chamber , the LAN and now United WAY.   We can all take to heart  as a life lesson that she learned from the layoffs years ago  at Tiger Brand.   " Failure leads to Success."    Those that need funds now ,it just a point in time and that success can come later.

Editors note  Please make a note in your calendar to go to the United Way Waterloo Region Communities website on Tuesday
8 Million  begins with One    Are you the One?

President  Linda gave our official thanks from the club.
