President Rajbir introduced our Board of Directors, each of whom will be speaking for 3 minutes on their area of service. Community Service - Rena Hawkins: The best part about Community Service is that it's a win-win - we are helping our community, and the through this service, we enjoy our best moments of club fellowship. Some of our efforts are: - assisting the Coping Centre this past weekend - Lang's Christmas Dinner - hosting and delivering all of the meals - Socks and Bottoms - a new initiative collecting socks and underwear for donation - The Food Bank's Mobile Food Market - it's not just getting food out to those in need, it's also providing access to emotional and psychological services to those vulnerable in our community Technology and Social Media - Brian Waddell: - Brian wowed us with the videos he's been posting on TikTok - it's an incredible amount of effort that Brian puts forth after each of our events. Anyone potential member who has a chance to visit our TikTok page/account is sure to want to be part of our group! Club Secretary - Past President Heidi Pfleger: Some highlights: - currently 36 Active, 4 Honorary members - 25% of our members are female. 75% are male. - 25% of members are between ages 40 and 49 - 36% of our members have been with the club for 20+ years. - 33% of our members have been with the club for less than 5 years - The average age of our members is now 57 years Goal as Secretary for this year is to : 1. get our database updated (photos and contact info) 2. help everyone get comfortable with the Club Runner Mobile App and assist anyone interested in learning more about navigating their way around My Rotary 3. complete a Strategic Plan for our Club that will include preliminary plans for our 100 year anniversary in 2026. (meetings to be held starting in October). If you are interested in being involved, please let me know. Club Foundation - Erica Tennenbaum: - Our Club's Foundation was established decades ago - Good News donations, bequeaths, and other donations have accumulated to $478,000 - the majority of this is 'restricted' - Having our own Foundation allows us to provide charitable receipts, where most Rotary Clubs do not have this ability - donating shares is an incredible way to benefit a charity, with little cost to the donor. - Erv Merkle Memorial fund started with a total gift of $100,000 supporting Vocational and Community efforts - Al Gmelin's fund is at about $20,000, the income of which supports Conestoga College ECE students - Percy Hilborn, the Charter President of our Club donated all the land for Dumfries Conservation Area, and also a small piece of property we now own, with the hopes one day it would link the park to Coronation Blvd. - Wilf Rieck donated $100,000 to assist small business start-ups; this has grown into the Wilf Rieck Pitch Day - October 28 this year, where we will judge and award $8,000 to local start-up businesses - all funds are currently managed, very conservatively, by RBCDS - if you have interest on being on this committee, please contact Erica! Membership - Paul McMenemy: - President Rajbir and Paul McM presented membership recruiter extraordinaire Paul T. Cody with an award for his incredible work done bring in new members to our club over the last few years. - small cards were handed out to members to help get the conversation going - RI has a new initiative this year "Each One - Bring One" - encouraging EVERY Rotarian to bring out 1 guest this year for them to learn more about Rotary. Time has proven that at least 10% of these guests will become members - so let's do it! International - President Rajbir: - New initiative this year Crystal Drops of Life Gala - to be held in February 2022. The funds raised will concentrate on bringing safe drinking water to impoverished communities - clean water leads to good health - another new initiative will see 10 wheel chairs be provided to those who need them; there are literally people who crawl and drag themselves to see a doctor, we need to help - we're looking at the 'caps for life' initiative - communities in Mexico have lost major international support recently, where some people are down to 3 meals per week - we will be helping to get those communities back up to 6 or 7 meals a week; pre-pandemic numbers... At this point, President Rajbir excused himself and requested that Past President Heidi finish up the meeting. Being that it was almost 1:40, after a quick show of hands from those still present, PP Heidi closed the meeting. The two remaining directors will likely fill us in over the next couple of weeks. See you next week! |
