IMAX Guy - Latest James Bond Movie, No Time to Die
Mike has worked in the large format film industry with Imax for over twenty years. As an Imax Camera Technician he has had the opportunity to travel to many interesting places around the world. The majority of movies he's worked on have been documentary films including various animal films, launch pad set ups for several Imax Space Films, NASCAR Daytona 500 to name a few. The work involves mostly preparing the camera equipment at Imax Headquarters in Mississauga and then supporting the productions on locations throughout the world.
Recently, the focus of Imax shooting has shifted to Hollywood feature films, with less documentary work. Many Hollywood Blockbusters can now be viewed on larger Imax screens situated in the multiplex theatres scattered throughout the world. Most of these films are not filmed using Imax cameras but enhanced in post production using an Imax process to be blown up to look good on a bigger screen.
Fortunately there are a few filmmakers left that prefer to capture their images on real Imax 65 millimetre Kodak Film using the original Imax film cameras and the two recent productions that Mike was involved in were Christopher Nolan's TENET, and the new James Bond "No Time to Die".
Both of these films were completed just before the Covid Pandemic shut down all filming productions around the world, and both of them had major delays in theatre openings.
